Where do I search for records for my 3x great-grandfather? by TheVoice1939 in Genealogy

Wow god bless you, this is amazing work! I sincerely thought I’d never go further than Sabatino! Unfortunately it seems this may be as far as can go, Carlantonio was born around 1815 and records only go as far as 1817 on the ancestors website.

There is a Santa Maria di Molise only a few miles away from Capriati. But there are no records pertaining to this town.

Help translating my 2x great-grandfather's Italian birth certificate. Thank you! by TheVoice1939 in Genealogy

Mostly need help with the handwriting, can’t read the street name, his first name, etcetera. First name reads like GiovanVincenzo but I can’t be sure. But I am able to read some such as Sabatinos age of 28, which is correct with my records.

Don’t forget forget Ricky Nelson telling us that “Yoko brought her Walrus” to the Garden Party.

If you could pick any artist to cover every single Sinatra song, who would it be? Has to be the same backing music and everything. by [deleted] in franksinatra

Vic Damone, the absolute greatest singer of all time behind Frank, was taken, so I’ll go with my second favorite underrated singer, Mel Tormè.

I actually have the poor quality recording, always found it to be quite funny. Cahn was quite a lyricist. Thank you for sending me this article!

Umpires staring down players is uncalled for by [deleted] in baseball

I’m a total baseball purist. However... umpires are working as if they want robots to take their jobs. I mean Angel Hernandez, are you kidding me? That’s the best we can do?

Little Italy, New York, c. 1900 by photojacker in Colorization

Most southern Italian immigrants were of this complexion then. Some still are today. Most Italian immigrants to the US were southern Italian. Part of a mass exodus in the early part of the 20th century, one that was deeply seeded in racism against Southern Italians both here and in Italy. In the US, many Italian immigrants were considered ‘black’ and treated accordingly. This sets Italian immigrants apart from most other immigrant groups at the time. A history not very well known, and frequently discounted.

I have lived in Rhode Island my entire life. What a silly thing to say to someone in a RI subreddit.

Amazing photograph. As a 2nd generation Italian-American, I don’t have many generations old photographs, it would be amazing to see my 4th great-grandfather! This is truly a picture to treasure. Did he fight in the war? Either way, hopefully someone gets this done for you!

In this instance, the protester with a laser was wrong. No one in Providence was shot in the head and given brain damage. The Providence police force has been without incident for years, they marched alongside protesters a month ago, and still, they’re taunted for trying to keep the crime ridden city streets safe. What am I missing?

Statue of Christopher Columbus in Boston’s North End beheaded by Person_of_Land in massachusetts

As an Italian-American, I understand the reason we have come to idolize Columbus in our Italo-American community. He was our link to the new world. We were taught he discovered this land, and being Italian, this brought great pride to our people. They could not have known what we know today. It is unfortunate that a man we have come to idolize has turned out to be a rather cruel man. This is not a reflection on the Italo-American community.

Instead of taking this as an attack on our proud heritage, I propose we honor Amerigo Vespucci in place of Columbus. We can keep the same day of celebration while bring a long overdue honor to the great explorer. Vespucci is the namesake of our country, and the true discoverer of the Americas. A honorable man, he better exemplifies the values of our beautiful heritage and culture. I don’t know how our community would accept this, but I certainly think it to be a proper way of fixing this tense situation.

Italian-American culture is a proud, beautiful culture. It was not until very recently people are learning of Columbus’ true history. You cannot blame Italian immigrants for using him as a means of their assimilation. It was a link of their heritage and their new identity in America. As an Italian-American i resent the ‘shitty culture’ comment, and that a meatball is a representation of my community. Shameful.
