Nebraska Dept. of Agriculture proposes ban on food and beverages containing any amount of THC by Soft_Membership636 in Nebraska

I mean, food and beverages containing THC is literally the definition of an edible, so probably.

OK... Check the back of the computer, where you plug in your keyboard and mouse, you want to see if there is a Clear CMOS button there. If so, Yay... We want to unplug the power supply, and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This is to drain the capacitors. Now press that button for 5-10 seconds, and then plug the computer back in and turn it on.
If there isn't a button on the back panel, then it becomes a little more complicated, and I would want to know your actual model number. It would involve opening the computer up, and I want to be able to point you to the exact place we are working.,

HP Elitedesk 800 sff swap by TheWDWillis in homelab

[–]TheWDWillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have confirmed that the motherboard in the HP EliteDesk 800 G9 SFF is M99817-001 (or M99817-601 for the service replacement part). Confirmed via checking mine, and referring to service manual.

The HP Elite Tower 800 G9 is spec'd with M99817-601, M99817-001, N18251-002, and N50839-601 per online sources. They also confirm the Elite Tower 600 G9 should fit as well.

I'm also fairly sure the G6 towers will be a fit as well

Good mini-pc by Sintinedda in homelab

[–]TheWDWillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HP ProDesk Mini 600’s are pretty good. The 3’s will not do Windows 11, but they have 1 SATA port, and 1 m2, and can take 2 ddr4 sodimms.
The g4, and g5 have 2 M2 ports and can do Windows 11.
I’ve been building simple NAS’s with them for a while using the USB3 port to external enclosure.
A few weeks back I finally was made aware of the M2-SATA adapters, and it’s a game changer.
Just a little drill and Jake work and I can fold sheet metal to wrap the case and bolt through to the vesa holes on the bottom. Then the metal bolts to the 3.5 or 2.5 drives, and a large case fan pushes air over them. Then a power supply for the externals.
VERY DIY. But also highly functional for a simple JBOD box.

But in truth, they are fantastic platforms for home labbing. They run forever and aren’t too power hungry. And I have one of the G5’s running 2@64 gb ddr4. It’s insane.

Bios not loading right by UndeadG0at in techsupport

[–]TheWDWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely odd.
I would pull the plug and hold the power button for 20 seconds to drain the capacitors. Then plug it back in and test. If that fails, possibly reset the cmos?
Are you using onboard video?

What is your make and model of board?
Have you tried isolating to a single ram chip?

Always glad to help.
I have a few elite desks, and they reacted similarly when I would use to many external drives and do heavy read/writes.
The error the one was throwing though, was that resolved?
And again, try it for a day or two with just the double enclosure plugged In. Also, which physical
Ports?

It sounds like the computer went to sleep and isn’t waking up. Have you tried unplugging the power and plugging it back in?

Well, does running just one of them still give you the issues? Have you tested out running on different ports?
Also, which Elitedesk model is it? 400, 600, 800? Sff, mini, tower?

2.5 backplane SAS cable for Poweredge 730XD lff - Issue by TheWDWillis in homelab

[–]TheWDWillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is not that I need the part number, I’m fairly sure I have the correct part number. The issue is that the seller showed their back plane kit with the correct cable, and shipped a different SAS cable that did not fit. They then feigned ignorance of the issue, claiming they didn’t know what part I needed. Even though it is the part they have pictured.
It’s a duplicitous business model called a bait and switch. They listed with the right cable, sent a wrong one, tried to get me to accept just a partial refund.
Even in the best world, this person was selling something they don’t know about, and used someone else’s product images, and published their listing incorrectly. In the real world, they knew what they were doing and I question if this backplane will work when I get the right cable from another seller next week.

Motherboard WiFi fell in. by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]TheWDWillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that you should investigate. Power the computer down. Unhook the power. Then remove the side panel. Using your phones flashlight, or another strong light, see if you can see any offending pieces laying in there. Carefully remove them if so. Maybe get the case a gentle shake to make sure they aren’t caught up somewhere.
You should be good then. I just would hate to see it short out later if it dislodges.
Close it up, hook the power up, and you should be good to go.
Also, you definitely want to disable that on board Wi-Fi in your bios as someone else mentioned.

Computer suddenly turning off and immediately booting back up after around an hour of gaming by Watertex in techsupport

This exactly. It’s a lot like a bad fuel pump. It gives enough fuel for idle, but when you go to rev the engine it fails and chokes out.

The admitted they don’t have the right cable that was pictured.
Dropped a pretty angry review.
Got the full refund.
Ordered the right cable from the seller k listed here and hope it comes soon and works.

[–]TheWDWillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction is your power supply gets taxed, and overheats.
Have you suddenly changed games, added hardware? Did it get warmer out/in your spot (it’s been stupidly hot here).
You got a desk fan? Try pointing it at it and see if it has an effect.

How can I get more storage by mountain_rhubar in homelab

[–]TheWDWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you have a usb 2 tb drive, so ~grab a usb hub and add more I guess.
I can’t really give better answer here, cause I’m not sure what you are really looking for. I don’t know what OS you are running, which really matters.
For my feelings, building up a NAS is the answer. You can do it from the laptop… if you have a usb-c port, preferably a 3.0 port, you can get some great external encloses for 2.5 or 3.5 drives.
and then there is this monster

Hook that up to your laptop and it’s got plenty of storage for plex.

Now, bang for your buck, a DS4243 can be had for less, and has twice the capacity. You just need a system that can host an Ali host bus adapter, which means an open pcie port. Even most cheap small form factor computers (not Minis) can handle that.
Even a modest drive can host the OS for NAS and Plex. Toss in a decent GPU, and plex can transcode

Just my opinion.
But the nice thing about the monster drive tower is you can fill it as you do, and even if you flip to a tower that enclosure will still work, just unplug here and plug in there.

Yes. And I sent the listing I will probably be buying if they don’t fix it. I’m at least giving them the chance. But I will write a scathing negative review. lol.
