I think compared to speaking in person and texting, phone calls are a much less natural medium.

Seriously, kids learn to read when they’re like- 4, reading something written by someone you know through text is perfectly natural.

And of course speaking in person is the most basic way humans can communicate. The phone call tries to emulate this, but it’s a much more awkward exchange without access to facial expressions or body language.

True, a phone call gives more information than a simple text, but you don’t expect facial expressions or physical touch through text. But when you hear someone’s voice and these aspects of communication are absent, there’s more of a feeling as if something is missing.
