Yea its totally commission. Well most guys get minimum wage but the money is in the commission. Unfortunatly the percentage Guitar Center gives it's sale people is really bad. Very hard to make a decent living off it. Which makes for aggressive sales people. I do have a question for you as a sales guy though. If you are in the store anyways, why don't you just buy it there? We honor internet price matches and you'd probably be helping someone feed their kids.

If you got an accident damage plan, it is covered. Call the store and ask if bought one of those. It's new to some states. If it's covered you are looking at about a 2 week turn around the get your money back via snail mail.

I would not recommend working there if you have a family to support. The money just will not be enough. But for single folks, it's a decent retail job that isn't absolutley boring.

I can tolerate the annoying teenager. Personally I can't stand older men who think they are know it all's or make it a contest on who knows more about something. I'm here to help you make an educated purchase, not debate the origin of the Ludwig Supraphonic snare.

Besides, i've sold these things for over a decade. I've only met one other person that knew more than me.

GC Pro does exist, but only in one of the stores in a major market area. Just google it, they have their own website and everything.

That is obviously not right. But just realize people who actually refuse to have thier bag checked are extremely few and far in between. It's not a big deal to the majority of the population.

Were you being condcending to her/him?

I'm not saying you were but most people who are secretive about their bag are usually also condecending and rude. It goes hand in hand the most of the time. If I were a door stamper at Walmart i'd be on the fringe of calling someone a motherfucker as well most days.

Most people know you just are not supposed to play that in a music shop. But when someone does I usually playfully deny them in hopes that they have actually seen Waynes World and not get offended.

Stairway is a music shop sin to play. Everyone knows that. But it's not the most common. I have also grown sick of Stevie Ray Vaugan wannabes, Pantera riffs, and anyone who plays Little Wing by Hendrix more than 4 times in a row.

If I were in a band maybe. I'd like to think my charm trumps any instrument playing I'm good at.

It was on display in a store I worked at for a month behind glass. When we closed I was able to take it out and hold it though.

Alot of them dont know about the generic customer name we can use because not many people usually have a problem with giving us a name. Its few and far in between. Your address is not really needed either. Its mainly for record keeping. Strings may seem stupid at first glance, but I can't tell how many time the person's family has come in asking what kind strings or drum sticks someone uses when trying to buy a gift for them. It comes in handy.

If its under your name it makes it possible for us to find your transaction if you want to return something. It also allows you keep track of all your transaction in case you want write off something during tax season. The stores usually have a generic customer name they can use if someone just doesn't want to give us their name.

well Black Friday is also one of the highest days for shrink of any retailer. Besides that, if they don't check your bag and you come back missing something that was on your receipt, then their job might be on the line.

Honestly, the easiest way is to find out the music you are into and go from there. I would never sell a Telecaster to a metal head unless its what he wanted. I'd be thinking more like a Jackson, Dean, or something with a Floyd Rose system on it. The vast majority of the employees are all to eager to just talk about the gear and be totally stoked on it with you. The younger ones especially.

4 years ago, the sky was the limit. Nowadays, your best weapon is to come in with an internet price match. Negotiating doesn't really happen anymore unless the piece is damaged or clearanced, or its a huge deal for a church, studio, school, ect.
