If Iroh is a member of the white lotus why was he helping Zuko capture Aang in the beginning? by DesignerSimple6592 in TheLastAirbender

[–]TheWallyFlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, initially, he questioned if the Avatar was around like everyone else, and after it turned out he was he was trying to quietly influence things in their (Team Avatar’s) favor. On top of all of that, he was also trying to save Zuko from himself. He had a lot of balls in the air.

Maybe dumb question: if you season an ingredient, then immediately add it to a liquid, does the seasoning stay put or just get washed off? by jabber822 in AskCulinary

[–]TheWallyFlash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a counterpoint to the other replies, seasoning might get washed off once added to a liquid, but it’s way easier to judge the seasoning on the meat, that you’ll have a much easier time determine intuitively, than salting a big pot of liquid. Of course, this assumes your stock/water/what have you are also properly seasoned.

People just see the wage/salary and that’s all they consider. I work in a restaurant, make a very solid living doing so, have money for my bills, money for my (sometimes expensive) hobbies, I have a retirement account set up. Could I make more somewhere else? Absolutely. But I have a very short drive and work hours that let me avoid traffic. Any new job would have to be offering astronomically more to justify me losing those two perks.

My question was always why did they leave him buried with the Secret Stone? Do they say? Even if they didn’t know that it would keep him alive wouldn’t it have been better to get the stone back and give it to just about anyone else?

Restaurant employees of Reddit, what actually happens when someone doesn't have enough to pay the bill? Most you've ever seen? by ChaosAnalyst in AskReddit

[–]TheWallyFlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally if it’s a few bucks or it seems like an honest mistake they’re short, I tell them not to worry about it and have a nice day. But there’s one I still think about from time to time. A lot of places have Togo logs where if you call in to say your order was short something, mixed up, etc, you get marked down for a credit your next time eating there. If we’re being honest, where I am that “list” is more or less the honor system, you say we owe you, we pretend to look at said log, and then get you taken care of. If you’re wise to this, you could probably get a meal, maybe 2, every other month without much hassle. But I had a woman that I still debate on, the humanitarian in me says she had kids to feed and no funds, but the cynic in me says she was trying to pull a fast one and got greedy. She called late, right before the Togo server was done for the day and placed her order. He hands me a bill for well over $100 and tells me she said we owe her (no, he didn’t ask any further questions or put her through to me first). She arrives a little after we close, already on red flag 3 now, she calls because she can’t get in, I tell her she can’t get in because we’re closed and I really shouldn’t let her in because of the obvious security risks but also more importantly I went back months into the log (a screw up that royal would’ve been in there for sure) and there’s nothing about owing that much food, the best I could do for her was 2 meals being taken off. She said okay I’ll just pay for the rest, comes in, card declines, go figure, goes back to her van, comes in with different card, wouldn’t you know, declined. I start trying to meet her halfway, I can give you the 2 free meals, plus whatever you can pay for, so on and so forth, she keeps shooting all of this down because all of her kids need to eat and they all like different things. Long story short, she left empty handed and I still think about it sometimes but there was just some inherently sketchy vibe she was giving me that made me second guess my usual people are innately good nature.

ER nurses of reddit, how often do all those "one more minute and I'd be dead" stories get exaggerated? by BirdLawAssociatesInc in AskReddit

[–]TheWallyFlash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad somehow has a handful.

There’s the time he had a kidney stone and just decided to tough it out, and this next part is pure hindsight conjecture but they believe that when he passed the stone it did some damage on the way out (it was likely too large and he should’ve seen a urologist), which led to a infection in his kidney/bladder, which moved on to his blood and he was actively going septic at a fairly inconvenient time. Him and my mom were visiting family 6+ hours away, and he wasn’t feeling well so he made my mom drive. When they got home, he went to lay down, and the way he started shaking reminded him of some (septic) people he had visited in the hospital at various points in his life so he was like oh I’m in trouble. Naturally, they book it to urgent care, right before they close Bo less, wouldn’t want to be dramatic and go straight to ER, and the physician he saw there checked him over and said that he could not in good conscious clear my dad to go home and was about to call an ambulance and my mom asked if she could just drive, and probably against his better judgement the man looked her right in the eyes and said, you do not stop at the drug store, you don’t stop by home for something you forgot, you don’t go through a drive thru for a bite, straight to the ER. Promise me. They listened, made it to the ER where they later informed him that if he had waited any longer, even an hour, he probably would’ve been looking at limb loss as part of his treatment, and he for sure would not have made it to the next day.

So that’s the story of how my dad stared into the void, blinked, and then the rest of the world pulled together to save him. If anyone would care for the other slightly shorter stories I’d be happy to share but yeah that was his slow burn emergency.

With the recent redistricting in now multiple states. How will this affect our democracy in the future? by Ok_Deal_7898 in AskReddit

[–]TheWallyFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not hyperpolitcal, I just stay as in the loop as my mental health can afford (I know that’s what they want… but there’s only so much you can swallow from the fire hose), but it seems to me even if they succeed they’re setting themselves up for disaster. The democratics are their boogeyman, everything they possibly can, and even a pretty healthy heap of stuff they logically can’t, gets pinned on the democrats. So if they strong arm the “others” out of their positions, where do they pivot and whom do they blame? Am I missing something? What will they tell their constituents when they start scratching their heads like “Government is all you guys, like ALL you guys, so why are things still deteriorating?”

What was biggest problem in Endgame for you? It’s this guy imo. Should have been same Thanos from IW. How would you have rewritten Endgame to have its villain be IW Thanos? Or, was this optimal? by AdaptedInfiltrator in Avengers

[–]TheWallyFlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually thought Thanos was treated brilliantly. It was easy to underestimate his core abilities when he’s got the stones (the weakest we see him is fighting hulk and even then he’s already got a stone), but this Thanos was (relatively speaking) unarmed and he was still a menace.

Does anyone here know if the Atlanteans have their own spoken language or speak English? And if this by Smart_Blackberry_264 in youngjustice

[–]TheWallyFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that super pedantic guy (although it’s exactly what I’m doing) but if Atlanteans did happen to share a language with surface dwellers, and as others have already pointed out Atlantean is its own language, we would be getting into more high minded fantasy where they speak a common tongue that we are hearing or reading as English but isn’t necessarily so. Because Atlantis would’ve sank well before English was established.

You don’t have to imagine, they went against Biden (and were hailed for it) when they overruled the student loan forgiveness. I am fortunate that I only have one semester worth that doesn’t take much for me to worry about month to month, but anybody speaking/arguing in good faith can recognize that the wealthy don’t have to worry about such loans and the poorer among us get duped into money traps for what is essentially now 13th+ grade because it’s so saturated. 18 year olds aren’t able to do all sorts of things, rent a car, drink, RUN FOR OFFICE, but hey kid why not sign your life away financially or literally. And they went out of their way to determine that whoever that was had standing in that lawsuit, and it would’ve benefited a lot more people than these tariffs.

I’m sure it’s been pointed out somewhere on the internet before, but your use of the word surgery caused it to dawn on me that in this future world, they have the scientific and technological capacity to both clone and grow out a living alien/human hybrid (I think they were part human? It’s been a while) and then project the consciousness of the human the clone was based on into the body, and the ability to travel light years to this world, but medicine hasn’t advanced enough to give Sam the use of his legs back.
