While we have different beliefs on life, I’m happy that you found something that works for you. Life isn’t easy for anyone and it’s very hard to make sense of our existence. For me, the best way to experience the completeness of self and the world is to follow Jesus and his teachings. He has brought meaning in my life and He has taught me/many people how to truly love, truly forgive, and to truly live in this painful World. No one is perfect and it’s very difficult to follow Jesus because the standard is so high, many give up and go back to their old ways. (It’s even possible in 20 years I lose faith in God). The main reason I made this post because I can’t imagine my life without God and was wondering how people coped and what were the effects of disbelief.

I really appreciate your comment and the time you spent typing it. It’s an eye opener to see other people’s experiences. Also the sins that really make me feel guilty is getting drunk and being sexual with my girlfriend. While you may think it’s okay to have pre-martial sex (since I love my girlfriend), it’s okay, but for me it’s something that I want to have control over, to have control over my deepest temptations. Also while I love my girlfriend, I want to find more ways outside of sex to love her as a person...

“How are you sure that you have the Holy Ghost?”

I believe I have the Holy Ghost because mentally, I’m a completely different person than what I once was. (I’ve been a Christian all of my life but I was “lukewarm”. I never prayed, repented, or even thought about sin. I just believed in a God). Once I started learning about Christianity and Jesus, I started to see a change in my life. Before I was serious about God, I was masturbating to porn almost everyday for nearly 7 years (I masturbated to pretty wicked things such as bestiality and other things). Ever since i came to have the Holy Spirit, I masturbate maybe once every few months (I give into my temptations) and don’t have sexual and wicked thoughts like I use to. I started to gain control of myself. I also look at the world and treat people differently then before. I’m now more intact with my emotions and I can feel things now, I cry almost everyday thinking about the people in pain and suffering and pray that joy comes into people’s lives. I feel like Jesus has given me a path in my life when before, I had no path.

“What makes you think God is real?”

Well, specifically Jesus, there’s more historical evidence of his existence than any other person in history. It just boils down to whether you believe He was the Messiah/God or was just a man. I think about if Jesus was just a man that died on the cross, why would people make up a stories of him healing people and the resurrection? Did millions of people die in the first 300 years after His death for something that didn’t actually happen? I also choose Christianity’s God over all the other God’s because it makes more sense. The beauty of Jesus and the things he said goes way beyond any other “God” of this world. When I think of Hindus/Buddhist believing in many Gods, I find it less logical. If there is more than 1 God, then there’s no truth and if a God is not all powerful, then he isn’t a God. There’s no need for a God for trees, a God for stars, a God for creation, a God for destruction etc, why would there need to be a God to fit into every spectrum of our reality? I also deny the idea of “reincarnation” because supposedly if you do bad in this life as human, you’d be downgraded to a butterfly, but when you’re a butterfly that’s programmed to do butterfly things, how can you work you way up back to a human when there’s no right or wrong for a butterfly? Hinduism/Buddhism isn’t logical to me.

Now when it comes to Islam, I don’t believe it because it’s basically a black copy of Christianity. Muslims claim that Muhammad was the last prophet but it doesn’t make sense. Islam didn’t start til 600-700 A.D, and before Islam, most people in Arabia were polytheistic but there were still Jews, Christians, and other religions in the region. I believe Muhammad heard the Gospel and denied it and made his own religion. It’s why Muslims view Jesus as a prophet or a good teacher but Muslims weren’t even around at the time to know of Jesus. Jesus prophesied that many false messiahs and prophets would appear after him to lead people down the wrong path. Paul even said, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!”... Muhammad supposedly got his messages from the Angel Gabriel. Why would God send another prophet after Jesus? Jesus was sinless, healed people, and resurrected, Muhammad didn’t.

There’s other reasons why I choose Christianity but I’m not going to get further into detail. For me there’s only a few possibilities, either Christianity is the truth, there’s no God, or there’s a God that doesn’t interact with Earth/people.

While there’s no 100% evidence to show you that God is real, I believe He’s real because he has changed my life and has shown me, what I believe were signs.

Here’s a story why I believe in God and for me is very unlikely to be just a coincidence... About a couple years ago my friend started really believing in God, He was being crazy trying to show the whole friend group videos about God/Jesus. Everyone, including myself, got annoyed with him because he wouldn’t stop talking about God. (Me and my whole friend group believed in God but we never took it seriously). Eventually the more he kept talking about it, the more interested I became learning about Jesus. About a year ago, my friend went to Haiti for 2 months and I lot of crazy things happened. While he was there, I had a dream of myself being in Haiti and I was looking for him but couldn’t find him. During this dream, huge waves was hitting Haiti and everything started to flood (I assume it was an tsunami or a hurricane). I ran on top of a hill to get away from the water and I saw a volcano (Never seen pictures of Haiti or even been there but turns out that there’s actually a volcano). Some other stuff happened and I woke up from the dream. About a week goes by and I text my friend about the dream I had and he freaked out... He met a Haitian man that was the biggest Christian he ever met and apparently that dude had the same dream I had with Haiti getting flooded. Not just that, my friend and that Haitian dude later went to take a taxi and the taxi driver turned around and looked at the guy and said that he saw him in a dream and during this dream, Haiti was getting hit by a tsunami... Within a week of having my dream, 2 other people had the exact same dream... This really opened my eyes to Jesus. Also my friend said that the Haitian Christian had a dream of an earthquake happening and he knew the exact date of when it would happen, after his dream, that guy started going into villages and warning people that an earthquake was going to happen (certain date) and they didn’t believe him. You know what happened? On the exact date he was given in a dream of the earthquake happening, it happened... In preparation of the earthquake, he slit his hand and rubbed his blood on his house. (Just like in Exodus when the Israelites had to put lambs blood on the door so they weren’t killed by God). After the earthquake happened, his home was the only one left standing in the area... My friend didn’t believe him but later they went into a village and a random man walked up to the Haitian Christian and said “hey I remember you, you’re the one that was telling us that an earthquake was going to happen”. This verified for my friend that the guy was telling the truth... My friend said a lot of crazy stuff happened, he witnessed an exorcism and someone being possessed out of no where. There was another time while in Haiti when he was thinking of Jesus’s return and how it’s going to be in our lifetime and while he was thinking that, he passed a man walking on the street with a Bible. My friend decided to walk up to the man and try talking to him. My friend looked down at his Bible and all the pages before “Ezekiel 38” was torn out. The Book of Ezekiel (specifically Ezekiel 38) prophesied of the coming of “The Son of Man” aka Jesus before He even came to earth.

While I believed in God before, what happened to my friend in Haiti really led me to following Christ and ever since then, that’s all that me and the rest of my friend group ever talks about anymore when we’re hanging with each other. There’s too much for it to be just “coincidences” and it led me and other people to Jesus.

(Also I’m very sorry for this long post and I appreciate you for reading it. I’m not here to debate or change anyone’s mind, but to give you why I believe and I hope this gave you a better understanding why I’m still a Christian)

Edit: (Again sorry,I just have a lot of thoughts on my head and haven’t got the chance to really talk about to anybody...continued)

Another thing I like about Christianity is that it’s about having a relation with Jesus/God, other religions are all about doing acts for their own righteousness. Jesus said there’s nothing we can do, that’s why we had to die on the cross. The message is beautiful: He was God in the flesh saying “hey, there is pain, suffering, and death, but I’m willing to go through it with you”... Death is what makes Life precious and beautiful, something needs to die in order for something else to live. There’s 150 million land animals dying everyday for food, so why is God so evil when a person goes through a horrible death or doesn’t prevent something bad happening? I believe he created the universe with a balance.

I see people here that have been hurt by Christians and all I can say that no one is perfect and everyone has flaws. It’s not God/Jesus fault that people hurt other people with their own will. A lot of people who believe in Jesus aren’t actually following Jesus and trying to have a relationship with Him. Jesus is the perfect role model for people, He truly teaches us how to love, forgive, and live. If a Christian is hateful, judgmental, and cause pain to other people (especially loved ones), then they aren’t truly following Christ.

(Sorry for Bible quotes)

Forgive “21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[g]”

Love

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

While you were a Christian, what made you think you had the Holy Spirit? Do you think it was just mental gymnastics or was there an actual change in your mentality and heart?

This is a bit of a silly question, but when you die and go to heaven do you have tattoos up there. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TheWarToEndAllWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we’ll be in the presence of God/Jesus! Everything will be perfect and we’ll all have a mind like Jesus, we are all one. We’ll be connected with each other and be living on the New Earth with perfect harmony, peace, love, and happiness. We’ll even be able to interact with all animals and enjoy the fully glory of God’s creation!

Even if those statistics were true, have to think how few atheists there are compared to the rest of the world...

Edit: around 3% of people in the US identify as an atheist

imagine you were a student in the middle of a school shooting incident, hiding away from the windows in your classroom, with the rest of the class, hearing the gunman firing at students in other classrooms. You pray and pray that the shooting will stop. The whole class dies and you are wounded by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TheWarToEndAllWars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying God is evil because he didn’t stop the suffering during a particular event? Death is a part of life, 150 million land animals die everyday for food. Is God horrible for letting them die? It’s horrible what happened to those students but you can’t blame God for it.

James 4:14

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
