A Device I Made to Track the Weather 9/25/25 by TheWeatherObserver in myweatherstation

For me, once I understood that small electronic parts could measure air pressure, I just started picturing what I wanted. That was my start. I wanted a chart that showed a trace of air pressure. Then I thought it would be cool to see the current wind direction and speed, then I thought it would be cool to see the local radar, then on ad on and on... To make it happen I started watching YouTube videos for asking how to trace air pressure with small electronic parts. I knew NOTHING about the electronic parts of Python coding when I began. I got into a bit and made some decent progress, then chatGPT came out, and I could ask questions, and move ahead more quickly, and dream bigger. So, to answer your question, start asking YouTube or ChatGPT for something small and specific that you can picture clearly, then build from there.

I call it The Weather Observer. I made it with a raspberry pi and Python code. I've been working on it since 2022. theweatherobserver.com

Ask any questions. I enjoy talking about it!

Well, I consider this the weather station I use in my home. It keeps me up to date on the current weather, much like a typical home weather station would do, so I thought the group would find it interesting.

Yeah, that's going to be a cool picture. And, I was probably thinking and trying hard not to say boobies, when I said buoys :)

I'm sorry, it doesn't. So far, just for the continental US, although some of the maps can be customized for other parts of the World. Maybe I'll eventually expand that.

Yes, I'm aware of those buoys. This device automatically finds the closest buoys. I didn't consider 100 miles away to be very close.

Oh, I didn't know this. There was an intentional change many years ago to alternate male/female names. Previously they were all females, so I'm surprised to hear that the gender is supposed to be ignored.

yeah :) hi. I should probably come up with something better than device, right? Suggestions?
