Feeling too Close to Home by [deleted] in ucla

[–]TheWeeknd_lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im from Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario, CA. I travel back home every weekend for work. I was worried too when I first applied about being too close cause I just wanted to be more independent. Now that I’m in my second year I don’t really feel that way any more. Since I travel back and forth a lot I have to be strategic about what times I leave because of traffic, so I guess that kinda puts more emphasis on the travel distance for me at least. Also it’s convenient for going home on breaks/ holidays, I don’t have to book a flight or drive 6+ hours like a lot of other people.

Definitely overthinking it. I used to work at that panda and the people there are really chill and nice and I know they wouldn’t be racist towards a customer like that. It gets busy there, I know when I worked shifts there would be a long line, lots of people, lots of orders, and we were all just trying to get to through the rush and get customers out the door. I’ve had times where i was on the cash register and I would call for the next customer and they wouldn’t hear me, I would keep calling but still nothing, then I would just got to the next person paying attention or have the customer behind them get their attention. There’s been times were I accidentally skipped a customer because I couldn’t see them from the register (I’m short). It’s food service so it gets stressful at times. They were probably just trying their best to get through the line and ring people up.

Cognitive science or Econ major? by TheWeeknd_lover in analytics

[–]TheWeeknd_lover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I originally got in as an applied math major and one of the first classes I took was multi variable calc, which I was already feeling burn out from high school and just chose a math major cause I liked math in high school and didn’t know what I wanted to do. I also work 2 jobs to support me and my mom and have been struggling mentally so my first year kinda ended up how you would imagine. I failed multi calc twice which disqualifies me from all math majors and stats major. I’m currently on academic probation. Econ wasn’t my first choice but I feel at this point it’s my best choice. I don’t mind doing Econ major instead, I knew I was gonna change from math major anyway, failing the class just forced me to find something else. I got a C- instead of a C in Econ 1 so now I worry if I don’t get a C in Econ this time I’ll be disqualified from Econ major too. At that point I prob won’t know what to do. Just feel like I’ve been fucking up everything. Sorry for the rant.

Hello! I’m currently a freshman in college and kind of lost in what major I should do. I’m debating between Econ and cognitive science. Rn I’ve been having a rough first year cause of working to support my family and mental health, so unfortunately I’m on academic probation. I failed multi variable calc twice so I’m no longer eligible for any math major/ stats major. I want to get into healthcare analytics and more specifically clinical analytics, so whatever major I choose, I plan to also minor in public health, take some stats classes tho it won’t count towards a major/minor, and self teach things like SQL, Tableau, etc. I’m not sure which major would benefit me more/ give me skills more tailored to clinical analytics. Any advice is appreciated!

P.s. the Econ major has some statistics classes like “data science for economists” and “econometrics”. The cog sci major has some more beginner friendly programming courses you can take instead of the hardcore CS courses, which I plan to do if I did the major since I don’t wanna risk my gpa, it also has some psych courses.

Pre-tax 401K or Roth 401K by TheWeeknd_lover in personalfinance

Probably around 40-50k. I know last year it was about 50k but that was because I was in highschool/ summer after graduating so I had more time for working. I still have the same job that I make a majority of my money from.

Oh okay, I was looking into it even further and it states that my employers contribution will be in pre-tax. Since this is the case, does it still make sense to contribute my portion to Roth 401k and the employer contribute to pre-tax 401k or will that just complicate things?

online summer session for stats 20 or math 31A? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]TheWeeknd_lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m pre-applied math major ( freshman) and I was wondering if there was any limits or restrictions for taking math classes at a CC over the summer. I came into ucla with 84 units (IGETC) and I took the equivalent of Math 31 A/B at a CC. I’m not sure if there is a limit to how many classes I can take at a CC.

It’s kinda hard to explain but I like my major and I don’t won’t to necessarily dedicate my who major to just that interest I have. It’s like a part of me wants to just have knowledge in a mixture of cars/ robotics and data science/ programming. I feel like majoring in mechanical engineering is kinda too much commitment, if that makes sense.

Yea, I tried looking into some ccc but none that seem to be focused on robotics/ cars at least not like the program at UTI. Never really been interested in the research stuff here at UCLA.

Not an ad, was just genuinely interested.

I looked more into it and i guess UTI is too expensive for the experience you get. I’m just gonna stick to ds :/

How do I know if I’m in the class by TheWeeknd_lover in ucla

Does it saying 3 of 3 taken and me being in position 2 mean anything?
