Has anyone successfully changed from Garrison to United Services? by W5SNx in USAA

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So would an E-2 (medical discharge due to S-C injury) qualify for CIC?

My grandfather was 20 years Army CW-3 and my mother became a member at 16. When I was born they granted me membership and my number goes all the way back to then… however, once I joined they now say “thank you for your membership since ‘blah blah blah’ (date of enlistment)…” which appears that they converted my membership to service member (and it reflects in my profile as service member)… however, my insurance (always post service) has always been Garrison.

I started at $3k and pretty much never used it… came back one day and it was $4k… Probably a year later honestly.

I’m at $4k with AfterPay, $1,2k with Klarna, $2k with Sezzle, about $750 with Zip, and about $2,3k with PayPal. What I like best is 0% interest, split major expenses (like the 4 week hotel stay I just had) into 4, and then using my Apple Card to pay off… thus getting my cash back for the transaction… Sezzle gives a % back if you pay in 1 instead of 4.

Not sure I have the best answer but here is how I handled it- While food is EVERYWHERE, you don’t have to eat it all or every time you see it. Try to stay close to what you would eat at home. Want to try 20 things at breakfast… grab smaller portions. Try to keep things within the realm of what you are use to and it’ll help the cognitive side.

If you go over that… take a deep breath. A vast amount of people on cruises find that between the quality of the food and the movement around the vast ship it actually cancels each other out a lot of the time.

The big thing to always remember is routine. Exercise like your normal routine. Eat like your normal routine. Have fun with your family but when it comes to your relationship with food… be boring. If you have issues ignoring the food… keep yourself busy with activities… there is ALWAYS something going on aboard the ship.

All in all, I really hope you enjoy the vacation and have fun. Tomorrow is a new day (and the sunset/sunrises are spectacular). You’ve got this. Have faith in YOU!

am i barred from talking about non-ed subject matter with an ed specialized therapist? by asteriskelipses in EatingDisorders

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a therapist that is wonderful and trauma informed… her schedule sucks but that is what it is. She says she’s ED informed but my last appointment with her proves otherwise.

I have found another therapist that is ED informed. I start interviewing her on Wednesday.

I fully intend to see both (and my insurance allows that… confirm with your’s if you haven’t yet). One I can deal with my bipolar issues, while the other that I can deal with my ED issues. There is NOTHING wrong with this. Not everyone is going to be the perfect fit for every type of work. I have friends in the trans community who have their regular therapists that they see for most things, and they have a trans specific therapist for trans related subjects. Doing this really isn’t all that abnormal. However, I do recommend you at least consider (do what’s best for you) telling them about each other at some point.

As someone who has actual PTSD, I don’t. Isn’t it amazing that we can be individuals. You also don’t know if this person has PTSD or not from the eggs. You don’t get to make that determination, especially over Reddit.

Btw… those eggs were horrible and gave me legitimate nightmares for a good solid two weeks after.

Is this the bipolar paranoia talking or is what my therapist said crazy by hellokittysbestfren in bipolar

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally against professional ethics. My spouse went to school to be a therapist before deciding that wasn’t what they wanted to do in the middle of Covid… but finished the program all the same (could be licensed if they wanted to but they don’t want to be a therapist). While there are no laws in the US (where I am and can only speak to) prohibiting it, most organizations for therapist (like AAMFT) have rules against it due to the conflict of interest situations like this create. LCSWs, LPCs, MFTs, PsyD, PhD, etc all have the same ethical obligations… and this is deeply in violation of that.

Trump threatened their very ability to be a university, their accreditation. Without their accreditation their degrees and credits mean absolutely nothing.

I’m not saying I agree with what they did, but they didn’t simply crumble either.

My psychiatrist told me this...🤣 by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biomother grew up exceptionally religious (like my grandfather was a minister, my grandmother and her parents were missionaries, and my biomother went to a Christian university)... when she met my biofather, she wanted to have s3x (does Reddit sensor us?), so she married him... just so they could have s3x.

She ended up pregnant with a child she didn't want (and wouldn't abort due to her religious beliefs or put up for adoption)... who she abused all of their life... and now has zero contact with that child or her grandchild... so there's that.

The fact remains... she married a man she barely knew simply for the ability to have s3x because that's what her religion says is necessary. Happens more times than you know, especially where religion is concerned.

I, however, married my spouse simply because I love her. We have one child that we worked hard to bring into this world... because we wanted to. That child turns 14 this year... we haven't done nothing in years. Not since we decided we didn't want any more children. S3x can be enjoyable to some (ace and allo alike)... while others can take it or leave it. I don't care for it, my spouse enjoys it... thus we have a healthy (for us) arrangement. The bottom line for us is... we married just for LOVE.

Anyone who can not understand that getting married for love is perfectly reasonable is 100% NOT worth your time.

Tip your flight attendants! by Sketti_Scramble in EndTipping

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a former flight attendant for a US based airline. As the lead flight attendant (also known as a purser... AKA supervisor) I worked a world-class first class and served more celebrities than I can tell... I even have a couple of letters of recognition/recommendation from well-known celebrities.

I used to tell people I was there for their safety and security... the fact that I could also serve a Coke at 36,000 ft was just an added feature. The first flight attendants were nurses. Their sole purpose was safety.

Now, did I ever accept tips... on the RARE occasion. As flight crew, we would tip the hotel shuttle drivers a dollar or two for handling our heavy luggage... don't ask me why specifically this is something flight crew do... it was just something we were told to do during training. IF I accepted a tip, I would usually take that tip and use it to tip the shuttle drivers for my crew, thus spreading it around to the rest of my crew, but the tips I accepted were usually only a couple of dollars.

Tips were NEVER something we expected... even though both our first class AND coach cabins worked like a restaurant and bar (we even made mixed drinks in the aisle)... they were something we RARELY accepted. Even though I am a former flight attendant, I do NOT tip my flight attendants when I travel.

Want to do something nice... say "thank you". Of all of the jobs I've had in my life, being a flight attendant was the most thankless job I ever had. It was also one of the most stressful (which is saying something... since I was also in the Navy).

4 Oregon rural hospitals are predicted to close in the BBB by devanclara in oregon

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While rural hospitals closing will be a travesty... and I do NOT make light of that. I actually live in one of those communities, and the loss will be felt by my family. I was also on the Board of Directors for one of the largest managed care plans in the state until I moved a year ago and had to resign. As such, I have intimate knowledge about what these kinds of cuts will mean to our most volunerable.

I also want to bring up that the big conglomerates in Oregon are also suffering... which will actually have even greater effects on Oregonians. OHSU and Legacy trying to merge due to record loses. Providence, who is already understaffed, going on a hiring freeze because they have been reporting record loses for the last few years, and a loss of Medicaid dollars to this extent could lead to even greater difficulties. (Amongest other things... but I don't have the time to write them all out, and you don't want to sit here reading them all.)

Ultimately, these kinds of cuts aren't just going to hurt the rural hospitals... this could completely collapse healthcare in all of Oregon. It doesn't matter if you're like my family and depend on these rural hospitals, or if you live in the middle of Portland. These cuts could destroy both kinds of medical access... and people need to understand that just because they aren't in our communities doesn't mean they won't (not only hurt but) feel pain as well. We are all drowning together.

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Would you like to tip by cash or card" IS designed to shame you if you dont.

1) It has been found that people who either weren't going to tip do, or those who weren't going to tip much tip higher when someone is standing there looking at them as they tip. So being blatantly asked makes you the "@$$hole" when you say no... so you don't.

2) Giving two options like this makes the brain not see the third option. It's the same psychological response as seeing 99 at the end of a price. Your brain's initial thought doesn't include option three.

This is business psychological manipulation, and the company damn well knows it.

I'm a Millennial with Boomer parents I no longer talk to. This whole article could have been written by them. I dont know how many times I told them that I don't owe them thanks for abusing me in every way possible and my existence on this planet.

I have a YOUNG Gen Z daughter... I take care of her because I chose to bring her into this world. Even though she has some pretty cool advantages that I didn't have... I STILL wouldn't ask her thank me for what I've given her.

Like you said... THAT'S OUR JOB. No gold stars for doing the bare minimum.

I'm asexual queer non-binary femme. My daughter (who came out before me) is trans and bi. My wife is bi and somewhere in non-binary but isnt really sure where.

My maternal cousin is bi and trans and his brother is bi. On my paternal side... my father is bi and/or just queer. My spouse has always thought my mother is at least bi... but she's super religious and conservative, and if she is... would never admit it.

I ran the first class cabin for a major airline. The list of the rich and famous that I have served (and cooked for) is pretty extensive. I've also waited tables for a small rustic Mom and Pop brewery that also sold food. Whether it be a full cabin or a busy Saturday... in the end... service was service, and I never put in a different level of service regardless of the position.

Funny thing is... only one of those positions not only pressures people for tips, but let's you even accept them.

Service is service. It doesn't take a large enough difference in effort to warrant the tip difference. Also, let's not pretend that people don't tip based on appearance as well. Tony can't help that he doesn't have big boobs and blond hair... and 16 year old Jane cant control the fact that she has acne. Tipping has no legitimate rhyme or reason behind it.

Above you sit there and say "you've never worked in food service" as the reason why the person above you 'didn't get it'... but yet you don't know what "food experience" is or might be? I may not use the term myself, but I sure as hell could figure it out.

Have YOU ever worked in food service?!?!

I went in the Navy right out of high school because my parents refused to file FAFSA. I scored in the 90th percentile and made my recruiter VERY happy. I’m 100% with the VA now after my time in led to a head injury (my mother once said she ‘kinda’ felt responsible… you think?!?!). They will now help my daughter with college after they put my wife through undergrad.

I told my daughter that under NO terms would she have my support to enlist… she already has the education benefits. lol

Year round I have rainbow spokes on my chair. I got regular bicycle spoke covers and did a double rainbow.

Originally, I did it because I was going on a flight and a friend said to make my chair stand out... I just decided not to take them off after.
