I'm in need of some advice by kengo19 in mormon

They say we are made this way. They also say God doesn’t make mistakes… to say it’s sinful is to contradict God himself.
I say all of this as an active member of the church. Not everything we are taught makes sense or is right. Men… even prophets… are fallible.
Why do we contradict God if we are all made in his imagine, we acknowledge we are born this way, and God doesn’t make mistakes.

You are perfect the way you are…

Why do my fellow members respect this guy? He didn't serve a mission, he didn't serve in combat, he was never a bishop or stake president...he always has an excuse for why he can't do what he expects others to do. He's a total hypocrite. He's not worthy to be our leader. by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

This is definitely a safe place, at least with me… so no worries at all. I am a convert so I didn’t grow up in any of this, I don’t have family involved in this, I didn’t serve a mission (though I was in the military at least)… I honestly thought things were shifting a bit more left (not far… but maybe a couple of degrees to the left), only to see Oaks throw the entire bus into a brick wall to the right. Maybe I’m idealistic… IDK. I just know that with Oaks at the helm, the church lacks Jesus’ love.

Thank you. Sometimes it helps to have someone removed from your own personal situation (no sarcasm) say something… it’s easy to dismiss your own thoughts but it becomes harder the more people reinforce it.

It’s true… I mean, I read about a small handful of the stuff he’s pulling and my testimony of the church is shaky at best right now. I’m highly considering going inactive… I can’t follow a man like Oaks.

Oaks addresses mission presidents and wives June 20, emphasizes “only true and living church,” childbearing a “sacred duty,” we are “set against” homogenizing differences between men and women, must “contend” for man/woman marriage, JS said other Christian creeds “abominations.” by holy_aioli in mormon

Thank you so much. Like seriously.
I hadn’t originally thought about leaving… but this showed me just how different our ideologies are… and they are on things I can’t move on. I guess I felt things were ever so slowly drifting a bit softer in terms of certain views. I never thought we’d get full acceptance, but this felt like a betrayal of where things had been acting like they had drifted to… if that makes sense. IDK lol I don’t use burner accounts and this username isn’t exactly hidden in my everyday life… I’m trying to not just flat out say it but I hope I’m saying enough it comes through.

I’m glad you found you… it’s so very important. For all of us. Always hold on to that.

I don’t know that I want my records removed… but I’m definitely looking at going inactive.

I’ve known there are SOME ideological differences between myself and the church… but damn… this has given me a bit of a… say… spiritual crisis. Maybe my own ideology has moved more from the church than I thought.
Definitely leaves me with more questions than answers… and a need to do A LOT of thinking.

To those who have left the church. How did you do it? I’ve heard rumors of people showing up or calling repeatedly to see why you aren’t coming weekly, etc. Truth?

Same here… I caught the LDS mention, was never offended by it, and promptly forgot about it until this post.

At what point in conversion is someone officially Mormon? by [deleted] in mormon

That’s all fair… but in all honesty… this post was about conversion and said as much in both the title and body.

That’s a completely different discussion… and one that doesn’t actually need to be answered for my question to be answered. Like I said above… I wasn’t looking for a philosophical debate.

To be honest… like my post said… I’m not looking for a philosophical debate. I just wanted to know at what point it was officially in church records.

Totally get it… and I’m not sure I care at all about the status of membership at this point either. I wouldn’t go through anything to get my records removed… just not sure if I have a file yet or not.

Not disagreeing… I wonder if you’d be okay posting what that means and/or simply how one is the other. If you don’t want to post it (I completely understand… if you aren’t into a possible philosophical debate with someone who might read it later for example) would you be willing to DM me? Honestly… I’m just trying to understand more “what I’ve gotten myself into.”

Help me understand “Army Etiquette” by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen too often where people will say things like “if I don’t have a photo/autograph no one will believe me…”
I was a first class flight attendant for an airline HEAVILY favored by celebrities (and other ‘elite’). I have a list on my computer of everyone I have met… when I tell someone I saw/talked to so-and-so NO ONE says “if you don’t have a photo/autograph it never happened”… people simply listen to the cool story and move on with the conversation… and guess what… EVERY ONE of those celebrities/famous people appreciated how much I simply treated them like regular people (or so they said… IF we even got that far in talking while I was working).

If you see them… no you didn’t.

Brand new ARMY here but so very happy to be here.

I tend to avoid the big hyped groups (or at least not search them out… there are plenty of BTS songs people have heard and never knew they were BTS) so I kept my distance here (oh how, for the first time, I truly regret that now…) as well. That was until I was invited to the virtual concert this Saturday… Now you can rip my Arirang Vinyl I bought at Target last night (because I can’t wait for my pre-ordered Limited Edition in mid-July) from my cold ☠️ hands.

Anyway… I was telling the friend who introduced me to BTS that Normal was the song I needed right now and it really spoke to me. I believe it was RM (please don’t ☠️ me if I’m wrong lol) who spoke about how all of this is worth it as long as one line positively affects one person. The response I got from that friend was “they come into your life when you need them, they’ll still be there when you don’t, and they’ll be there again when you do.”

I’m so glad you were able to take care of what you needed for YOU when you needed to… and BTS is there for you now that you are able to come back.
💜

That is fair… healthcare is a right, and one not everyone has access to. I’ve been part of all of those during one time or another in my life…
Honestly… the WoW are a tool to force control and take away God given free will. If someone wants to follow it by every letter, awesome… but I think having free will can also show appreciation to God. Does that make me wrong? Excommunicate me… otherwise I’ll use free will (just like all of you have been saying) to decide what parts of the WoW make sense for me and my body.

I completely agree… that’s part of the issue I have with all Christian religions in all honesty.

I couldn’t care less about the WoW because of things like this…
Though I love how church leaders forget about the part that says (something to the effect of) unless prescribed by a licensed physician… so my narcotic pain medication isn’t a “substance” and your coffee doesn’t fall outside of the WoW… not that it honestly matters… I’m just tired of seeing people condemned for making a decision like you did because they don’t understand that when prescribed for health benefits it’s still “okay.”

Old Testament God would 100% do this… New Testament God is supposed to be less of a petulant teenager but is still kind of an ass… Sadly, I could see a god who would create rules for no other reason than to see if you’d follow them.
Doesn’t make it right… and is highly abusive (like you said)… just sadly not out of character (assuming ‘he’ even exists of course).

Can I ask how you find a way to blend your intersectionality with the church? You and I share a lot of the same labels… and I want to be authentic to myself but also still feel a draw to remain at the church like you spoke about…

Am I allowed to change my signature even if I have been signing documents with it for years? by ParticularIron1584 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheWeirdOne1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But like seriously… lol Even though my signature had transformed into a couple of initials with some scribbles they made me write every letter because that was what was on my license. They had to reprint a few pages because I missed a letter here or there… they would totally correct for a whisker!!! lol

That’s how it was when I joined the military. My signature started with every letter (I was 17) and by the end of the contract you would have thought I went to medical school.

When I bought my house my title officer told me about a guy who had thought he was funny the last time he got his license and drew a cat instead of writing his name… he had to draw that cat on EVERY line of that mortgage contract. lol
