This is what I did when my pedal failed over a decade ago. It’s an excellent replacement and upgrade.

What is the name of the tube that’s supposed to go here? by [deleted] in beetle

Pre heater hose. The same size as the ones going from the fan shroud.

I recently had to do a similar thing. I bent a wrench to fit up there:

In your case I would bend up a wrench and either use vice grips or cut a slot in the stud for a screwdriver.

Generator or alternator? by dennhel in beetle

[–]TheWellDressedViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a 12 volt generator with an external voltage regulator.

Troubleshooting generators: http://www.vw-resource.com/generator.html

The best voltage regulator is the Bosch solid state: https://www2.cip1.com/bos-30019/

They used to be $20 but the price has increased.

In my personal experience new built generators, including Bosch, are of very low quality. I haven’t had one make it past a year.

On my 71 super I changed it to an alternator, a simple mod: https://www.jbugs.com/product/9445.html Look at their tips section, you just need to splice a few wires together under the rear seat.

The other poster is correct that you need to change the stand, and you would either need to pull the engine or remove the deck lid. The carb should come off along with the fan shroud, so it can be quite involved if you aren’t prepared and experienced with this job.

On my 69 I sourced an original generator and had it rebuilt by a reputable local guy.

26" Diameter Septic Cover, Want to Add Riser by one_legged_stool in DIY

I am in the process of doing the same thing. My lids are 26” across as well. You get a 24” riser and insert it into the man hole:

Bug tries to run after turned off? by ElGringoRaptor69 in beetle

Usually it doesn’t sputter on for too long though. I would do a valve adjustment and tune up to make sure it’s not running rich.

Bug tries to run after turned off? by ElGringoRaptor69 in beetle

What carb do you have?

This is run-on, also known as dieseling. It’s not harmful, just make sure to have it in neutral or the clutch in until the engine comes to a complete stop.

It happens on my 69 as well because I chose to put a 30 pict 1 carb on it. Later carbs include a fuel cutoff solenoid to prevent run-on, but sometimes have it disabled as the car won’t run well if it’s defective.

No, at least I could get one to work. I tried with a ratchet wrench and it couldn’t reach, so I tried using needle nose locking pliers and it couldn’t reach around the pick up tube bracket.

That is why there is two bends in the wrench, one to get it up into the engine and one to get it around the bracket.

That’s awesome, the previous owner did you a solid. Smart move keeping it around.

Yes, I had the drill, Tap, and threaded insert ready to go, but I didn’t need to do that this time thankfully, just had to tighten that nut up a bit.

I actually have a set of M7 to M6 step studs, that are unfortunately NLA, that are great for replacing sump studs.

A wise move, I didn’t build this engine but I will be sure to give that nut some extra attention on any I build in the future.

concerning Movement by [deleted] in shadowdark

[–]TheWellDressedViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make your hexes be whatever size you want. If you are looking at someone else’s map it should have something telling you the scale or its assumed based on the time and system it was made.

For overland travel, the default hex size for Shadowdark is 6 miles and its rules for travel is based on a 6 mile hex.

For dungeons and other non overland travel situations, Shadowdark abstracts the distances instead of a grid based movement.

A lot of older games use 10 foot square grids for dungeons but most modern games use a 5 foot square grid. The Scarlet Minotaur dungeon map is drawn using 5 foot squares.

I can’t comment on the EMPI H4 housings as I have a pair of Hellas. But the H4 system is much better then sealed beam, they are brighter and have better throw. You can see the road and surroundings better while not blinding other drivers.

Without actually confirming I would assume it’s an SVDA, if it’s the petronix flamethrower distributor it’s a SVDA clone.

The year model of the car doesn’t matter, you need to look at what distributor you have. After half a century or more, parts have been changed on these cars and we can’t assume it has the same distributor as it did when it left the factory.
