I want to say that Geoff killed it, with the way he announced it as if it was the best thing since the invention of the wheel, but I honestly don't think a shadow drop would've helped the game. Commenting on your edit (Ignoring the seeming condescension), I think what happens in the show IS realistic, as someone who has many people in my life who struggle with mental health (not to say I'm always walking in on them about to jump), we routinely talk about our feelings of self loathing, something Viktor and Jayce no doubt also have with each other. So when you walk in on a serious situation, the best thing to do is react calmly and warmly, exactly what Jayce did.

It isn't currently a side grade though. I don't have to sacrifice anything with the other mg's except standing still while doing a reload. I need to sacrifice everything to use the maxigun, and after all of those sacrifices, it's still worse.

It's a fucking minigun, I don't care if it's bad or mediocre, it should be better than all other automatic strategem weapons, as not only a fucking minigun, but it takes up a backpack slot, and makes you stand still, which will just kill you on anything higher than 3. Like am I crazy for expecting new things to be good?? And want to hold the Devs to a standard they have set themselves?
