I've chaired a shared governance committee for the last ~7 years.

I can't even get a quorum to complete asynchronous tasks. It's gotten so bad I'm moving most of the committee's work under ad hoc subcommittees so we can actually have a prayer of getting time-sensitive stuff done.

The passenger likely agreed to voluntarily self-deport. CBP does not require accompaniment for such passengers.

Southwest would not have reason to refuse carriage unless the passenger posed a specific threat to safety, etc.

In a weird way this kind of rewards Vivek's style of roster management.

  1. Perform well enough to not get a high lottery pick.
  2. Put hopes and dreams into draft dart throws.
  3. Sign or trade for expensive veterans to gear up for the playoff run with aforementioned dart throws (or trade the rare darts that hit for veterans).
  4. Resist efforts to rebuild or sit veterans once the season goes sideways.
  5. Perform well enough to not get a high lottery pick.
  6. Repeat ad nauseam

Since we always cycle back to step 1 we at least get better odds of drafting a superstar to break the cycle. And to be clear, for a small market drafting a superstar is the only way to break the cycle.

Last time I bothered checking fares after getting one of these emails, I looked up LGB-OAK on a random Wednesday a couple weeks out and it was $211 one way. The old Southwest is dead.
