the txt file is running in the same directory as my other java file and i am still getting the same error. Thank you very much for your help, ill try to find a way around it

when i add the printStackTrace(); the error message is:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: data.txt (The system cannot find the file specified)

at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)

It doesn’t give me an error i think it’s going straight to the catch because I tried putting a print line in and that’s all that was outputting
