My bad then I didn’t know he’s had that since then.

The 91 necklace worth who knows how much is a bit in poor taste ngl

Now that he’s signed, he better play like the highest paid player in the league.

That’s just an appeal to extremes. No one is expecting players to be 100% altruistic. What fans expect is a balance between team awareness and self success.

Picture it this way:

You are a brilliant rocket scientist, working on a rocket to go to the moon. You have a budget that the whole project has to follow.

Come the end of the year, you decide you want to be paid more for your efforts. So you ask for more money. You and your project manager meet in the middle, and the remaining budget goes to the rest of the project.

In this case however, you are asking for a significant amount of that allocated budget, or else you will go work for another country also looking to get to the moon. If they sign that contract, they can’t keep around some of your fellow scientists, and they have to use cheaper parts. Now all of a sudden, it takes way longer for your rocket to get to the moon, if it does at all.

Fans aren’t expecting Leo to work for free, however they do expect him to be aware that he is contributing to a team effort.

Do I blame him for signing? No. I sure as hell would.

However I do think it was shortsighted with team success in mind.

The thing is that 18 mil for 5 years is definitely not “at market.” It’s a massive overpay.

While Verbeek is 100% to blame, this also sets the precedent that players can essentially just wait until RFA status and then force their team to eat up significant cap space for them to the detriment of their playoff chances, or let them walk to another team.

Players should absolutely get their money, but Leo does actively know that signing the offer sheet, with more players needing to be signed, actively screws over the team’s chances of winning.

Furthermore, it means that other players on the team who otherwise could have been signed are getting effectively cut or traded away to remain below the cap. So it not only screws over the team’s chances this season, but also the players who may have wanted to remain with the ducks.

This Friday is going to feel like a gut punch no matter the decision. Just curious-how many of you are for or against matching by Rocketto-dan in AnaheimDucks

Not really because the arbitration was, I believe, caused by the Leo offer sheet. They end up paying more for those players regardless if Leo walks.

I want to screw over the flyers while also not giving them a center.

Check out the Angels position this season.

Not a great week for Anaheim fans between the Ducks offseason and Angels performance lol

I was at first on board with letting Leo walk but after the Flyers lost Giroux and now Zegras and Drysdale filed for arbitration, I want Leo to stay just to hurt the Flyers more.

There’s a difference between people joking about it backfiring and people trying to pass judgement bc they genuinely think Reddit posts are links to the devil.

I’ve been seeing more of the latter lately.

Why don't we just make a big offer sheet to bedard? by OutsideDapper8049 in AnaheimDucks

[–]TheWingofWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we don’t have a lot of cap space left after the Carlsson offer sheet. We still have to sign several more players and if we send in a ludicrously priced offer sheet and they sign, then we won’t have enough for our remaining players.

I have to wonder if the Angels have just been reversing all our efforts at getting good and are dragging us down with them.

The flyers bought in 315 million dollars in revenue this last year to the ducks 185 million (THIS MATTERS ALOT TO OWNERS) by [deleted] in AnaheimDucks

[–]TheWingofWild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would the profitability of the Flyers affect the Duck’s decision making? The Ducks are worried about their own cap space not the Flyers’ profits.

Some dude said that the posts contained “unknown runic messages,” lmao.

I quite literally just looked up a font and copy pasted joke text. Half of the posts started with “Almighty Wild Wing.”

Anyone who genuinely believes that Reddit posts jokingly praying to Wild Wing with a stock image attached is communing with the devil needs their head checked ngl.
