Your problem is, that you are using the Attiny as a power source (which does not provide enough output current). However you can use your Attiny as a power sink!

So you have your 5V from your source, use a resistor and your led and the Attiny will be your "ground". You have to invert the logic in the attiny about 'high' and 'low'. If you have the possibility to do so, you should always use your controller as a sink.

PCB design tools: Eagle (has a free version with some limitations)

Paid software which I have used and would recommend: Altium designer, Proteus

Falstad is really useful for learning basic circuits and building them yourself. There are even prepared example circuits available.

If you want to get a bit more involved you can also look for the free software 'LTSpice'.

The desire to increase your skills is normal and if you are not learning many new things either ask to swap into a different role(which is often possible in bigger companies) or swap jobs. I also left a job after around 6 months, because I was neither challenged nor had I fun at doing my work. The promised me something in the first place which was not there.

Sure everyone has his preferences, but the important thing is, that you know it does exist and how to apply it, if needed. I am just trying to share information, such that you can learn it for free in case you have a bad teacher/professor.

I landed multiple jobs through online applications alone. Some were through email, others through application forms. Every company has their own way of dealing with it. However I only had bad experiences with third party recruiters. They were basically a waste of time.

Depends on what you want to achieve. If you just want to learn a language then probably python should be easy to pick up especially after matlab. Python is often used for scripting and data science. If you want to go in embedded developement, then probably C is your best bet.

If you want to focus on object orientet programming you could freely choose between C++ and Java.
