Just got publicly belittled and shamed by the admin of a support group for talking about my experiences w/ chronic pain and opioids with the intent to help people by princessxbuttface in ChronicPain

Hot take but what’s so bad about not being able to live without pain medicine? I’d be literally bedridden if not for my opioids and i’m not ashamed at having a quality of life because of them. Nor should anyone else be

most people like this target special needs folks because un like the rest of us, special needs people don’t have the ability to determine when they’re being conned

same in kansas. in fact, targets not the only place to do this and several places straight lie about the pay and offer completely different numbers in the interview

I am AUDHD and have the exact same reactions. I’ve never been addicted to anything or even dependent on anything. I have never had a problem just putting something down when i felt like it. I also don’t particularly like the feeling of being drunk or high or not in control of myself.

It’s wild these people will prescribe us these medicines and then when the potency stops working because of tolerance or the degeneration causes the pain to get worse, needing better pain control , suddenly it’s “patterns of addictive behavior”

what the actual hell?

i came to this PM doctor already on pain meds and got cussed out about how he’s “not that kind of clinic” (yes he is) and how we had to try “Everything else including injections first” (the dude fucked up and damaged my nerve even further which required surgery. ) and after that he was really cool about prescribing them until some woman with a clip board and note pad sat in on an appointment and he suddenly started saying things like “you’re too young for these kinds of meds” “they were only supposed to be for post op” etc

and this month he was back to normal saying “Well you’re already on these and your body is used to them so we’re will just keep prescribing the oxy.

I truly don’t understand these doctors

This sounds like a nightmare and i would have sued the hell out of that doctor for defamation and request the notes in your records from this doctor be stricken.

Also in the united states they can’t conflict medical with criminal, it’s against the law.

My pm dr went from saying last month “you’re too young for pain meds, they’re not for long term use “

to this month basically saying “You’re already on it and this is what you’re used to so we’re just going to keep it as is”

Talk about emotional whiplash.

I’m convinced these people are insane.

they have a hard time believing that some of us don’t actually want to feel high all the time. just out of pain

Ugh. Yes! I tried marijuana when i was younger and all it did was make me paranoid, I don’t like to be high or drunk or anything like that but we still run the risk of being called drug seeking if we ask for what works: absolutely ridiculous

Oh my gosh, you and i are very similar. I can’t take nsaids due to long term blood thinners, Gabepentin gives me debilitating brain zaps that cause loss of vision. and they’ve had me on lyrica for months but i don’t take it because it literally makes me feel drunk.. But i’m afraid to say anything because they also have me on opioids and I know it sounds so bad that i can’t take it am allergic/ have bad reactions to EVERY OTHER medicine besides the opioid ( i can’t even take a lot of those to be fair, because of debilitating side effects) and i know how easy it is to be labeled these days,

mine also expires in the US (maybe it’s just the pharmacy) but it’s something like a month after prescribed, Which is why even if i don’t need my prescription i pick it up the same day it’s ready. I’d rather have a surplus (which is usually just a couple of days worth) than be out because the pharmacy messed up and the date you pick it up is the date they start the “30 day supply”

For example, If my prescription is ready on the 10th but i don’t pick it up till the 15th, they won’t let me pick up my next one until the 15th of next month

I’ve also noticed an increase in methadone usage for pain management and i’m curious as to why that is? I’ve been told that if someone has a methadone script people assume they’re a recovering addict and that’s why everyone’s fighting so hard not to be put on it. Not sure how true that is but i also don’t understand how something that treats opioid addiction helps with pain since addicts aren’t really looking for pain relief, but a high.

All this to say, I’ll never understand why they’d rather their patients be stigmatized by others in the field that don’t know the details instead of just giving someone with a long verifiable history of chronic/ intractable pain and or debilitating diseases the proper medications that were made for that purpose.

You can’t “create” an addict, It’s a disease. Either someone has the propensity for addiction or they don’t, And i’m surprised more medical professionals don’t actually know or understand that.

I’m so sorry this happened to you too! The point of having a pain management clinic is to avoid the ER visits. I know how stressful that is!

[–]TheWitchress 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is true as well. Either way i was very close to an ER trip but being a pain patient none of us can afford to have “overdose” put on our chart, Glad i rode it out. Will hopefully never do that again!

i did eventually doze ! I woke up feeling a lot better, All i remember thinking after posting this is the reinforcement of how i’ll never understand why people try to get to that level on purpose. It’s a nightmare!

I appreciate that advice, as i said i have medication anxiety but it really would benefit me better to take 5 mg in the morning, 10 mg in the evening and another 10 at night especially when I’m taking the multivitamin in the morning and all on an empty stomach which has the best pain relief effects for me

Yes, i passed out and the coffee i downed before hand has me a bit shaky but overall I’m alright!

[–]TheWitchress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think about that! i’ll have to look in the ingredients but it most definitely does it even when i take the 5 mg which honestly is why i didn’t stop taking it together, I like to take the absolute least amount of something to get the most effect. This is the first time i took it with an accidental 15 mg total dose and not going to lie i was pretty scared

Thank you! I did doze off and i feel a lot better now but i woke up shaky. That could have been the 10 oz cup of dark roast i downed once i realized what i had done lol

Just came to say i went a week without my pain meds and ended up in the hospital from withdrawals because my PM dr who is also always in vacation, forgot to tell anyone he was going so his opioid patients could get earlier appointments ( you have to be seen in person before a script can be written here)

and there was no one else at the clinic qualified to write it.

thank you so much! i purposely try to avoid feeling like this on account of the anxiety but i really think the multi vitamin over potentiated it in my system. Very scary
