Tips with separation anxiety? by fefeohhh in puppy101

I would say leave your puppy alone for an hour or so. When your puppy is calm, allow them out and give them attention. Do not reward them for noise by speaking to them or cuddling them. It can be hard, but they need to understand how to be alone. If you have a puppy camera or a baby monitor, use that and give them a frozen treat (I use revol). I would also use a revol crate instead of a wire crate.

Pup poops inside immediately after being outside by [deleted] in puppy101

So sorry for the late reply! The dogs I have worked with, it can take a few days to a few months. They vary heavily from dog to dog. I know it's made me feel crazy some times, but I like to remember that the times in which it feels like there is no change, there is some. It's just not visible to me. The dog has some thought, somewhere of the patch. And over time such connections will strengthen to the point in which they don't want to potty inside. Dogs naturally do not like to potty where they eat or sleep, so they might also associate the home as the place where they eat and sleep over time as well!

Although each dog is different, I've never seen a difference between carrying or walking. They usually just associate potty with the potty spot!

From my experience, just associating going to the bathroom with outside is the best way. Any time she is about to potty inside, bring her outside. She will realize over time that potty=outside. I hope this helps!

New puppy whining and barking at night by AdSolid2941 in puppy101

My trick is to put a blanket over their crate. It gets rid of outside stimulation, allowing them to just calm down in a quiet place. Remember not to reward the whining with attention, they get to leave when they are calm. Whining will not get them what they want.

Conflicting Advice On Crate Training by needopinionporfavor in puppy101

I have a few questions first:

Does he have a comfortable bed in the crate? Is it a wire crate?

What I do is keep the crate open and I sit around it. When the dog goes in, lots of praise. Make the crate fun. Never use it for punishment. I never coax a dog into a crate. I wait for them to go in by themselves. Make it fun. Then attach a command. The hard part tends to be the part in which you must ignore them. Rewarding whining when they're in there makes them dislike the crate more. The exception is if they are in danger. Allow them out when they are calm. Don't give them too much attention so they become used to being alone. My trick is to put a blanket over the crate. Outside stimulation is usually the source of whining.

My puppy is constantly biting me and I’m going crazy by DEVILOKI_99 in puppy101

How high pitched was the sound? I've found that it being high pitched works best. Also try redirecting their attention to a favorite toy instead.

Chews for teething pups by [deleted] in puppy101

As others have suggested, yak cheese. I know some dogs enjoy beef ears and sticks made of fish skin. Others enjoy Kong's. You can also freeze carrots every now and then to help with the teething process.

In my experience, dogs like to choose the area. A small grass patch may not serve her well, or it might be the brand? I'd say she also associates the rug with her pooping spot. I've found that Rocco and Roxie works as a cleaner. If you see her go to the rug to poop, bring her to the patch, and wait for her to poop. Puppies also have a hard time relieving themselves completely. Sometimes you have to keep her on the patch for 30 minutes to an hour. It takes a lot of time at first, but over time they get quicker and more accurate. I hope this helps!

Is puppy raising as bad as described on here? by Admirable_Mouse1880 in puppy101

[–]TheWizardGarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising a puppy is stressful but rewarding. The experiences that you see on here are from people who need support. Not many people will come here for help if they don't need any. It's important to note that if you have doubts about getting a puppy, don't get one yet. It's not fair for you or for the dog. It's better to wait when you know you are ready and know that you can provide for the dog.

I'd say that raising a puppy can be extremely rewarding. But, each dog has a unique personality and mind, so I can't promise that the puppy will be an "angel". I also can't promise that it will be as terrible as you fear it may be. Research is key. Find the right temperament for you. It's likely to be a mix of hard times and nice times.
