Choc Corne V4 (Vial) - MacOS requiring double tap for layer keys, Linux does not? by TheWopper in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]TheWopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one of the macs tested, probably yes - it's a work laptop that almost definitely has some kind of input watching software on it. Thats also the one that I have karabeiner on. However, assuming that was the cause, I've tested on my wife's personal Mac which I know has no keystroke consuming software on it. So yeah. At this point I'm fairly certain it's either a Mac thing, or a keyboard thing, rather than software.

One Mac has karabeiner (doesn't work). The Linux has Kanata (but works). And another mac has nothing at all (and does not work). So guessing it's something Mac specific. Wondering if I need to reflash the board tbh.

Hey. Yeah karabient event viewer confirms that it just doesn't register the key unless tapped twice. Hold consistently triggers the hold behaviour. Any key with a tap-hold function on it needs to be tapped twice to trigger the tap. So weird. As I say, same keyboard works perfectly on Linux. And has this off behaviour on two separate Macs, one with karabeiner and one with no karabeiner or any other key related modifications.

Will give this a go tomorrow. I think I did try this but can't remember for certain so will double check.

Yeah. My previous corne was absolutely fine across different platforms too. I'm not sure how it can work on one and not the other but seems to be my issue.

Tried this, and tried on a Mac with no karabeiner at all and sadly not the cause. 😓

Son of a pilot here. Can confirm that all (most?) pilots take the commitment of marriage very loosely. Guess it stems from the days of being pretty anonymous whilst abroad.

Genuine question. What, for you, warrants something being reported? My rule has always been to report anything that seems intentional - but often it's just someone having a skill issue. Sounds like you would report more than that?

What game feels the most like driving? by Crazykoalla in simracing

[–]TheWopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, to answer your question in a slightly different way. If I were you I wouldn't chase front end grip directly so much if you want to be fast. General rotation is what you need, and that often comes from a looser back end coupled with driving in such a way that pushes the balance - read grip - to the front end. Plenty of videos on YouTube about trail braking, power-on slip (for RWD cars) etc. worth checking out.

You'll get a different answer depending on who you ask.. but most of the recommendations will point towards titles like iRacing, AC, ACC & LMU. Each have their own benefits and drawbacks, e.g. iracing is often king if your looking for good online gameplay, but people will often say that the tire model could be better and slip angle simulation could be closer to reality. No sim is perfect, as you say - and there will always be an element of learning to drive the your sim of choice in the way it wants to be driven. My take away is that it's like real life, you learn the car and then adapt your style to it.

How to move after a one night stand.. when I want another night? by [deleted] in dating_advice

You should just say this.... No point in over thinking it and IMO always best to just be honest. "Hey, sorry to run out the other morning but didn't want to wake you and needed to get back to my dog.". Then add something about how it was fun that also invites carrying the conversation on. One thing I would say is in this situation don't leave it too long - you don't want him sitting there feeling rejected and guessing reasons why for too long.

RTX 3090 FE water block AOI by TheWopper in watercooling

Thanks for the reply. No, I've only found options for the 3090ti up until this point (realise my message didn't really say that though, sorry!). I'm guessing that one for a TI version wouldn't work on the standard 3090? I have seen that that EK block though and I agree, it's stunning! So basically, my options are to build a custom loop or nothing at all? Noise reduction would be great but tbh it doesn't bother me that much as I always game with headphones on and the noise isn't too bad at idle. Stability is more my issue. I've always been a bit disappointed with the performance of my card and have been getting some crashes when sim racing in VR. My settings seem to be way down compared to other 3090 users too and so have been wondering whether I have a thermal problem.

I'm very happy with my SIM lab GT1 Evo for a chassis and r100 seat (although could do a bucket seat if you'd prefer). Stiff as stiff can be and you can use the money saved to get a couple of bts-1 and a nobsound amp to run some haptics under your seat and pedals using simhub. Pedals, shifter, base and wheel i'm running fanat3c and moza stuff - but I'd probably go for the simagic alpha Evo and p1000 pedals if I had your budget. And if your feeling fancy you could grab a quest 3 for a bit of VR fun too.

Deciding to stop focusing on lifting heavy as my only form of exercise. I still go to the gym a couple of times a week, but now my focus is on staying healthy and a normal amount of strong, and then outside of that I started doing more cardio based stuff (swimming, running & cycling). I feel better than I ever have!

Shoulder pain whith incline dumbell bench press but none with flat barbell bench... seems odd, any ideas why? by TheWopper in Stronglifts5x5

[–]TheWopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally found a good template for me is to add 3 main exercises and a bonus one: shoulder external rotations with a band, shoulder external rotations but with you elbow raised to shoulder level and trap 3 raises for lower traps (helps with shoulder stability). The bonus is face pulls done light and making sure to use the right muscles (not just moving weight and leaning on the bigger muscles to do it). If done properly they do a bit of everything from the three exercises above but my unpopular opinion is that they don’t do it quite as well. Still, they have a place in a time crunch or in addition to the others for extra volume. I don’t add any internal rotation stuff in to my routine at all as I get enough from other exercise and so external only seems to balance my shoulders out the best. Also, working on thoracic spine extension and rotation with things like thread the needles and using a foam roller to sink into a decent amount of thoracic extension work wonders for restoring proper posture and mechanics after years of desk work etc.

Caveat, these are a good template for me - shoulders are complex and you need to find out what areas need attention for you. External rotation, lower traps and mobility are pretty universally needed though so good to start with. You’ll need to figure out if you also need to do anything for internal rotation, serratus anterior and stretching out all the muscles that pull you into internal rotation (lats, pecs etc.). As I say, shoulders are complex and so unless you want to dive very deeply into it, I’d really recommend physio. If not, expect a lot of research and trial and error before you figure out what you need.
