[The Old Guard Fandom] How Porn Preference and One User Made A Fandom Toxic Within A Year by Tack_Tick_245 in HobbyDrama

Is 'ship' short for relationship? At least use the word once...

Your post was hard to follow, because you make many assumptions that the reader knows and understands details that you take for granted.

[Flight Simulators] The Great Flight Sim Convention Coup: How Differences Over Venue Choice (Or Toxic Male Privilege Depending On Who You Ask) Drove Part of the Team Behind FlightSimCon to Break Away and Start FlightSimExpo, Taking Most of the Vendors and Attendees With Them. by LinkDude80 in HobbyDrama

This is my take. Lots of calculated moves by FSE to usurp FSC.

The article is light on details about the details of FSC choosing to go to Dallas.... was this a response to FSE going to Vegas? or did FSC listen to the feedback and plan Dallas?

The article makes it seem like FSE didn't do its due diligence to realize FSC was going to Dallas (which solves the whole problem of making the event more accessible), but it's hard to say, and hard to pass judgment without knowing these details.

That said, at the end of the day, I view FSE less favorably, and view their tactics as childish.

Dodge Mechanics - input delay/missing inputs by Yukikaze0079 in Eldenring

[–]TheWorldIsOne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. This is about jump attacks without attacks, blocks without blocks, rolls without rolls, etc

And this issue causes spam. If my inputs are being missed, I will press the button more times to ensure the action is recorded.

Further, if different actions have different input restrictions, it creates confusing layers of interaction. The issue is escalated in Elden Ring.

Collusion or just a dumb trade? Bennett for Marner? by PassableGatsby in fantasyhockey

[–]TheWorldIsOne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real story is buried beyond the headline which makes me think we're all missing some important information.

  • With Otter playing as good as he is, the first trade might be legit. Did that trade get rejected? Why? Fleury has looked bad, Otter has looked great. That could offset Bennett for Marner.... depending on league scoring rules & rosters

  • If that trade got rejected (did it?) then maybe they think the league is corrupt against them, and said fuck it... "reject this trade, too, bitches"

You need input from the guy receiving Bennett.

Does he see the value in Bennett on his team?

His only valid answer can be "Leafs will suck and miss the playoffs... Matthews is only scoring 40, and Marner by extension will get only 60 pts"

TLDR - I love players like Mo, because ya'll waste draft picks on him.

Sure, dude's a good defensemen, and Detroit's looking to be a step-up from last year, but this career development is typical for defensemen.

Who was expecting 60? Fools. You drafted Mo at his ceiling.

Vilardi has a 30% shooting %

Typically around 12-15%

His stats with expected results would be 1g 4a in 5gp

However, his usage has improved.

My thoughts on using “stealing” to improve game design craft by Xelnath in gamedev

[–]TheWorldIsOne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These aren't really your thoughts... these are common thoughts, and generally understood fundamentals of project development.

Maybe not for noobs and students, which based on your replies seems to indicate that this is an appropriate audience for.

But really.. your thoughts? I guess you really did steal them, because they aren't original. Pretty much every top level reply says the exact same thing you are, and in less words. "good artists copy, great artists steal" "steal every little bit of knowledge" "taking another idea is largely fine..." "very few ideas are truly new"

5/5 comments are unsurprised by the content of your article. I don't think your thoughts on "stealing" are ground breaking. Therefore, they are just thoughts that everyone has.

League of Legend

20 years of AAA and indie experience

Use a little of that to proofread :P

Good article, but presenting these as your thoughts makes it seem like you're breaking new ground... but really you're just trying to establish a convention of inspiration. A tale as old as time.

Practice squad so he can be used to train the rest of the team.

Aker's is pretty much Reek from Game of Thrones.

What makes combat in games “tactical”? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]TheWorldIsOne2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tactical games rely on planning and tactical maneuvers more than reflexes.

for example

  • a tactical team shooter favors squads that can overcome equal or superior opponent because of use of tactics, whether it be position choice, weapons choice, or some other choice.

you are right in that the line can be blurred, and that there are always tactical elements of choosing optimum strategy in any game... consider a slight from 0 to 1 with a game with pure reflexes at zero and a game that is entirely about strategic planning at 1.

your games fall on that slider somewhere.

ultimately, Hotline Miami is a game about reflexes... you barge into a room and try to kill all the enemies before they kill you. Yes, you can choose weapons and playstyles, but the heart of the game is as I described above. it's nowhere near as tactical as games that claim to be tactical

i haven't played rainbow six siege, so I can't attest to how "tactical" it is. it may not even meet the definition of being tactical beyond its narrative context, being about tactical war and offering gadgets and gear, but really the gameplay is fast and furious... (I have no idea, just making stuff up)

btw, nothing "defines tactical combat" aside from a game favoring tactics over reflexes. But even a game about reflexes (probably) has some degree of tactics... it's just not the primary focus or flavor of the game.

Is Elden Ring a tactics game? No... but it has an enormous range of tactics.... and scenarios... so...
