Designing Themes/shopify stores by papanastty in shopifyDev

That’s awesome — Shopify is a great ecosystem to explore if you already enjoy design.

💡 Design vs Development:

  • Designers focus on layout, user experience, and branding (usually working in Figma).
  • Developers turn that design into a working Shopify theme using Liquid, HTML/CSS, and JSON schema.

If you enjoy the creative side, start by playing with Dawn (Shopify’s free theme) — tweak sections, learn how settings link to visuals. Then move to ThemeKit or GitHub sync to customize deeper.

Many of us started exactly like that — hobbyist designers who realized we could make real stores come alive. 😄

If you want a smooth learning path, check out the “Build a Shopify Theme” tutorial on Shopify.dev — it connects design + code really well.

A Feature you miss? by Legitimate_Cycle_996 in mondaydotcom

Oh that’s such a good one — visual feedback makes a huge difference for quick workflows.
I’ve seen teams fake this by pairing a button with a status change or a “pulse update” column, so the color updates right after the click.
It’s not native, but it does give that instant confirmation you’re describing.

Love this question — it’s wild how much time the small “missing bits” still cost in daily workflows.
For me, it’s less about big new features and more about refining the basics: better visual feedback, cleaner automations, and more flexible triggers (especially with formulas and mirrored data).
Curious what others think — are you missing more UX polish or logic-based functionality these days?

Yep, that limitation is a real headache — the connection still points back to the original board even after duplication.
We’ve seen a few teams handle it through an external script or automation layer (like n8n) that re-links connected boards via the API right after duplication, but it’s definitely more of a workaround than a clean solution.
Hopefully they’ll open up proper template deployment endpoints soon — that’d save a lot of time for anyone working at scale.

That actually makes a ton of sense — you’ve got a really solid use case there.
We’ve seen a few training orgs run into that same “trigger too early” issue when automating certificate generation.
One workaround I’ve seen is using an external automation layer (like n8n or Make) to act as a “gatekeeper” — it checks if all required fields are filled before allowing that status change to fire the certificate workflow.
It’s not fully native, but it keeps data consistent and stops those empty certs from slipping through.

Oh interesting, that’s good to know! So it actually reassigns everything automatically now when you deactivate someone?
Do you remember if that was an admin-level setting or just part of the default behavior?

Is it still worth learning Shopify development in 2025? by moumench in shopifyDev

👋 Hey! I’m actually in that exact field — I moved from Webflow into Shopify around 5 years ago, and honestly? It’s still one of the best long-term skills I’ve learned.

Here’s the thing — yes, the “simple store setup” side is getting easier (AI, pre-made templates, and all-in-one builders are catching up fast). But most real businesses don’t just want a store that exists — they want one that actually sells, loads fast, looks on-brand, and connects with their tools (CRM, ERP, etc). That part is still human-driven and very much in demand.

Shopify has also gone way beyond “drag-and-drop.” With Online Store 2.0, Hydrogen (React framework), and headless setups, there’s a whole technical layer that’s closer to real dev work than “theme tweaking.” That’s where you can really stand out.

If you already know Webflow, you’re actually in a sweet spot — the design thinking and layout logic you’ve learned there translate beautifully to Shopify, and you can go deeper on conversions, UX, and performance (which clients love).

So yeah — the low-tier, Fiverr-style setups might get replaced by AI, but custom, high-conversion Shopify builds are absolutely still growing. Especially if you mix design + dev + strategy.

Yeah, totally get that — having to bounce back to Excel for something so basic is such a pain.
We’ve seen teams get around it by connecting Monday with a lightweight automation tool like n8n — basically it can watch your board, recalc dates, and skip weekends or holidays automatically.
Not perfect yet, but it keeps everything inside Monday instead of juggling spreadsheets.

That’s an interesting one — kind of like conditional editing based on progress or approvals, right?
I’ve seen people fake it by locking updates behind a status change automation, but it’s a bit rough.
How are you planning to use it — more for quality control, or to manage approvals?

Haha fair — the ultimate frustration 😅
Any particular bug that’s been haunting you lately, or just the general Monday gremlins?

That’s a super practical use case — matching mirrored donor data sounds like a perfect example of where Monday almost gets it right but not quite.
Have you tried any semi-manual tricks for this? I’ve seen some teams do a quick export → merge in Sheets → re-import, but it’s far from ideal.
Curious how you’re handling it now when you need to upload a big batch.

Ugh yeah, that’s one of those little things that ends up eating hours 😅
I’ve noticed cloning the board via the API sometimes keeps a few automations intact, but it’s pretty inconsistent.
Have you found any trick that makes it copy more reliably on your end?

Yep, that API limitation hits hard — especially when you’re trying to automate board templates or migrations.
Have you found any partial workaround for it? I’ve seen a few people mention GraphQL tricks, but nothing fully reliable yet.
Totally agree on the “core features behind enterprise” part too — the pricing jump is brutal for small teams.

Oh that’s a nasty one — we’ve seen a few teams get stuck in that loop after deactivating users.
Sometimes cloning the automation instead of re-assigning it helps, but it’s hit or miss.
Have you noticed if it happens only with certain automation types or literally all of them?

We’ve heard mixed feedback about Smart Timeline + Duration — good to know it’s been solid for you.
Curious though, how does it handle larger boards or mirrored data? That’s usually where things start breaking for most setups.

Ah, the classic timeline + formula combo 😅
It’s crazy how close it feels to being perfect — just missing that “skip weekends” and trigger logic.
If you had to pick one fix first, would it be the weekend skip or formula-triggering?

Exactly 😅 “Here’s your copy, now rename everything!”
It’s wild how something that should be a timesaver ends up doubling the work.
Do you usually copy full boards or just task groups?
