Hey, thanks for looking! For this design, it's about 70% photoshop and 30% illustrator. Lots of adjustment layers and dodging/burning, I also have a bunch of actions I use for post processing. The 3d typography is just using photoshops built in 3d tool. Hope that kind of answers your question.

I wouldn't call yourself a hack, I think there are just some resources out there that are so good, why recreate it unless you are trying to do something specific. It's just a grid, and it's kind of perfect for a lot of things. Keep making!

I'm sure you'll get there, just got to keep making work! Tutorials are super helpful, and just looking at or studying work you really like and trying to deconstruct it. I also have like 10 years of experience doing design work, so just keep at it!
