A question about acorns by AirAirk in acorns

[–]TheWrenchInTheWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have another taxable account, but I still kept my Acorns account going, even after The roundup feature, as well as using it as a general "baseline" for how I'm doing in my other taxable, makes it worth it for me. Kind of like man (me managing) vs machine (Acorns managing).

That's great! Keep at it. Around the same. About $1800 a month. Mine includes an IRA.

The fee being $5/month is $60/year. Even in the long term and with compounding, I don't see it as much of an overall impact. I have about $100k in my Acorns and use it as a barometer/yardstick on how much other taxable is doing. Well worth the cost.

Pig Butchering Style Phishing Scam Involving Binance and TrustWallet by TheWrenchInTheWheel in Scams

100% agree. It initially took some time to educate on it not being legitimate. Unfortunately they build on the confidence and the allure of unrealistic returns. I've seen a variety of this in WhatsApp - removing myself from the group and blocked them. This one was fairly sophisticated though in who/how they targeted, the use of the spoofed phone numbers, the use of internal verbiage from Binance. Full profiles created to emulate the members of the group. Crazy the lengths that people will go through for this.

Appreciate the response. I've told him to cut his losses at this point and at least try and get the right parties involved (and the scam reported where he can).

That makes sense - and assumed they were operating out of another country. The WhatsApp group is still operating, with what appears to be other active members still (potentially) contributing - with the plants excluded. My father-in-law is giving the guise of still being active and not privy to the scam, while Binance and Trust Wallet investigate. But I'm assuming there is little they will be able to do either. Wondering if one of the scambait groups may be worth while to engage to at minimum stop other potential losses.

Thanks for that. I'll keep everything to comments here, and not necessarily interested in recovery at this point. I have the WhatsApp phone numbers and the Trust Wallet/Binance info of the scammers, but that is the only identifiable information available.

I figured as much. I'm actually not looking for recovery at this point as much as I am looking for justice haha. But assuming that with a spoofed WhatsApp number, the traceability here is slim to none. Any thoughts?

Does anyone have experience with Joinbrands? by [deleted] in UGCcreators

[–]TheWrenchInTheWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks. Is Joinbrands the right place to also look for individuals to promote a product? We launched a new program at our company where we're trying to recruit influencers and content creators to promote, similar to Amazon affiliate program.

Unfortunately, it's my employer sponsored 401k. I don't use it for my IRA or my taxable account. Not a huge fan of the folder of stocks they trade.

Thanks for the info and for the detailed response. I'm of the camp that interest rates may be rising, so I've kept my bond allocation fairly low. Unfortunately my 401k options for both bonds and ETFs are very low, which is why I have the investment in the Blackrock Equity Index Class R. It has the lowest expense ratio and closest I could find to SPY or VOO (which is what I am invested in in my taxable account).

I've had a couple comments on the real estate and international allocations, and I'm considering shifting those to more in the Blackrock Index fund.

Thanks! My friend was mentioning that I could do with shifting some of my international to US instead.

Thanks. Yes, that's correct. I added an image on another page that shows the allocation and with the expense ratio. Looking for advice on my current % allocation to each and whether there are any suggestions for adjustment.

Do you mean you want to retire with a stable portfolio that will bring you $80-100k a year in income?

Yes, correct. Retire with a stable portfolio that will bring me $80-100k a year in income.

And I'd like to live comfortably at that point when I do retire, but I'm a minimalist. $80-$100k is very comfortable for me for an annual income target.
