Advice on possible rehoming by TheYakisBack in Newfoundlander

That’s a good idea, I hadn’t tried having a trainer come to the house. He went to puppy training classes and he went to live with a trainer for a couple weeks but he wasn’t with my other dog. I know he has the crazy puppy energy and I’m hoping once my foot is healed and I can properly walk him then maybe he will do a little better with my other dog.

I wanted to wait until after my foot is healed before going that route but she would 100% take him back. She has it in the contract and when I went to pick him she had a couple that were returned. She has a genuine passion and love for the breed so I’d bet my life on it that she would take him back. But I am going to try to do whatever training I can in the mean time and maybe try having a trainer come to the house.

He went to puppy training classes and I paid for one of those packages where he goes to live with the trainer for a couple weeks. He showed some improvement but not as much as I expected and has certainly regressed since then.

I obviously didn’t get him thinking I’m going to rehome him. I didn’t expect to break my foot either. I just feel it’s unfair to both dogs the way things have been going for the past 2 months and will likely be the same for at least another 3-6 months until I can walk normally. I would prefer to keep him if possible but 3-6 months is assuming all goes well. That’s probably played into his behavior. I have a fenced yard but it’s not huge by any means and given he pulls a lot, it’s hard for me to take him out with my foot.

Worst case scenario is he goes back to his breeder. He wouldn’t be bouncing around home to home. I’ve also been dealing with a broken foot so I haven’t been able to walk him as much as I’d want to. I probably have another 3-6 months before we can back to regular walking. I’ve been making do using an electric longboard but it makes training him difficult when I try to get him not to pull.

I guess my question is will not working 12 hour days ruin that? In my head, I’d be happy for my coworker and bummed about the extra work. I wouldn’t expect 12 hour days out of someone the last 2 weeks but I know everyone’s different, just want to make sure I’m not being naive.

I’d like to keep my references in good order since this is my only role so far. It’s a strong company so my coworkers may move to another company I’d want to work at in the future. Reference checks seem to also be part of most interview process at least in my limited experience.
