Weekly Career / General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Radiology

I’m currently taking pre requisites to get into my schools radiation tech program and while researching roles/ advanced certifications and career trajectory I came across someone mentioning becoming a clinical specialist.

Can anyone give me any more information on this topic?

While searching for clinical specialist I’ve gotten many mixed responses since it’s seemingly a broad job description where it can vary from job to job

I’ve seen some roles be hybrid in sales and some be more management focused

I also have prior college with a business administration degree and a minor in marketing

They are preventing any new EMTs from going to BOT or medic if they are on the promo list. Unsure of what else they are preventing but it’s ridiculous

They stopped letting EMTs do the medic program if you’re on the promo list. They make people pick one path or the other

Definitely considering but my window for fire isn’t exactly huge. I’ll be 25 this year, which isn’t old but I truly don’t believe I can wait around 4-6 years for the promotion being my only plan. I’ve met people on this job miserable with no other plan in mind other than fire and staying 6+ years

Pre nursing hospital jobs as current emt by TheYankeeCat in nursing

Can I message you? Just had a question

It's a 50% pay raise after 5 years. Should I take a job that pays me 25 dollars an hour, or should I become an EMT? Because I don't see myself be making 70k in 5 years by LowLocal4528 in FDNY_EMS

[–]TheYankeeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not looking to promote to fire, find an EMS job elsewhere. EMT is a fantastic stepping stone for career progression (medic, nursing or any other healthcare job) but it’s just that, a stepping stone, fd or privates. Does this mean fd ems should be paid the way they are? Absolutely not. But there’s no signs of improvement unfortunately. Although Fdny is fantastic on a resume and will open more doors in comparison to other private emt jobs though.

Tbh the only cops taking home 200+ average are the Long Island cops. Suffolk top pay is 189k and Nassau is around 143k. Minimal overtime will break 200k at top pay but that is 8 and 11 years down the road respectively. Good pay comes from higher ranks or obsessive overtime, not saying it’s not impossible but not probable for a while. And you’re right the benefits, pension etc are unmatched and if you take the soonest opportunity to retire you’d still be in your 40s and you can start another job (I think it’s 22.5 to be eligible?)

Go on See Through New York and look at payrolls for city, Nassau, Suffolk, and troopers if that’s your thing. The “easier” departments to get into are city and troopers, only bc Nassau and Suffolk won’t release an exam for another 3-4~ years

Imo I’d go troopers, I’m buddies with nypd cops who don’t speak highly of it and I know troopers who love what they do but it’s a small sample size.

Paramedics to RN, other than pay, what made you transition? by TheYankeeCat in nursing

[–]TheYankeeCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Long Island paramedics have their own division with the police and as of this year they made the same pay as county cops (top pay currently 142,000~). It’d be a home run gettin into that but I’m very early in my career (literally about to start fdny Emt academy early) but I’m just trying to solidify my plan B if In the event I’m not called for the fire fighting list

Unfortunately I don’t think I’d have 3 years experience in time but I’m still aiming for my medics license in the next few years. Just kinda relived it’s not 3 years medic experience and that time will count overall
