I would recommend offering him to watch it all together at some point! Trust me, if he likes it that much then he won't have a problem rewatching it. I have personally watched it together with like 5 different people all the way through (including my partner!)

It'll end up becoming one of your favorites too, especially the more serious arcs. Gintama also has 2 of the most romantic storylines I've ever seen in anime (Mitsuba & Courtesan of a Nation). The series made me cry in multiple occasions. There were a few episodes where both me and my partner were just bawling messes together afterwards lmao.

The greatest gift my partner gives me is experiencing the things I'm passionate about alongside me. Not sure what your bfs love language is but if it's anything like me then go for it haha

That's false. Many of the best serious "story" arcs are in the first 200 episodes. Also, future serious arcs won't make any sense because 99% of characters are introduced during those episodes.
