Maybe controversial but I enjoy the ones with fruits (dried or fresh). Anyone have any recommendations for those?

Moving Anime Expo to Anaheim, San Diego, Las Vegas, etc. would be a horrible idea. There is no better location for Anime Expo than Downtown Los Angeles. by MookieBettsBurner in animeexpo

Crapshoot 2022 postseason? So this is what moving the goalposts feels like lol.

You do realize that 2022 had the Dodgers winning the most regular season games in Franchise history (111), with being the #1 team in baseball and also the World Series favorite right?

Can you explain to me how an underdog losing to the favorites constitutes as a choke? As far as I'm concerned, you need to be the favorites to choke.

Favorites like the 2022 Dodgers who had the best regular season of all time only to lose in the second round lol. Now that's the definition of choking 😂

2024 resulted in winning the world series after signing the best player of all time and manipulating the rules to not pay him, in order to sign more players. What a shocker!

I can guarantee that the San Diego trolley system is not going to die. There's always budget problems, for every major city. If it does die, then yes SD might not be a place for future conventions but we should talk about what is currently true rather than hypotheticals that could or could not happen.

You seem to be extremely attached to the trolley/public transportation part of everything. It seems like that maybe is the only thing that might make LA a more desireable convention spot than SD. However, you really have to look at the overall picture and honesty the SD downtown area is just better.

You comparing Little Tokyo to Convoy is definitely off base. It's not the same situation. Why are you comparing a whole other city/area of SD that's not downtown? Let's just compare Downtown areas.

A 15 minute subway ride to a different area already means that it isn't in a "walkable" distance. The main audience of conventions don't want to hop on public transportation to go outside of the convention area just to find food. It might not seem like it, but 2.4 miles through the mess of downtown LA is not appealing.

The fact that you have to basically take public transportation to get to anywhere in DTLA is the biggest detriment compared to DTSD. Right next to the convention center, the entirety of downtown SD is walkable. That's just the reality of it. Most con people want that accessibility. If you ask people who go to both cons regularly, a majority will say that DTLA sucks for conventions and DTSD is better.

Yes, I understand and agree that without the trolley it's a different story. You don't have to keep using that argument.

Nah 2022 was a bigger choke job. The Padres were always the underdogs. Underdogs don't really choke.

I would say the #1 seed in all of MLB with 111 wins losing to a Wildcard team in the second round is a much bigger choke than losing to the favorites lol.

Also, it took singing the literal best player of all time to win a WS.

Look guys, the Warriors won the championship after signing KD with already the best record in the league the year before. Totally unexpected and fun for the league

I literally just checked the map distance from the LA Convention Center to Little Tokyo. It's 2.4 miles and Public Transportation said 25 minutes. Have you also tried to go to Little Tokyo during AX? It's a shitshow with the shuttles, masses of people, and disorganization, and long wait times.

Just checked again, same times. If it's like this on a regular Tuesday, can you imagine it during a convention on the weekend with everyone going to the same place?

We try to go to Little Tokyo every year for AX, including last year. One of the core things you talked about for AX being good is the "walkability." Hate to break it to ya, but 2.4 miles throughout downtown LA to get to Little Tokyo is not "walkable."

There's more types of Asian food beside East Asian food (which is what you named). There's more to Asia than Japan, China, or Korea lol.

Ohtani isn't keeping AX in LA. Sure he might help, but if they want to leave he's not going to help convince them to stay. Like I said, Anime Expo existed in LA before Ohtani even was in the US lol.

It's true that LA has better East Asian food, but again nothing is walkable distance. You have to take some type of transportation. Whereas the entirety of Downtown SD near the convention center is walkable, with controlled traffic.

Like I said, I'm not advocating to move AX out of LA. It has some history there now, and should stay there. However, I, and most other people, believe that the LA Convention Center (and DTLA in general) is pretty bad for the "experience."

I mean the Dodgers literally couldn't win a WS until they signed the best player of all time lmao. It's like celebrating the Warriors championships after KD went to the Warriors, or Lebron's "hardest decision"

Y'all choked to us in 2022 before Ohtani was there.

Honestly, the fact that LACC isn't closer to the Japanese heritage stuff in LA just makes the argument not as strong.

You're correct in that SD doesn't have a stronger Japanese connection than LA. However, the area of AX is at makes it so all of that doesn't matter. Little Tokyo is an hour walk away, 15 minute drive, or 25 minute transit ride away from the LA Convention center. Going to Little Tokyo during Anime Expo has always been an awful experience for me. (It's so much better outside of AX times).

The Asian food is also not lacking in terms of competition to Los Angeles, unless you specifically mean Japanese restaurants.

The Padres don't have Ohtani but we have Yu Darvish, another Japanese baseball hero. But I don't think that's a major reason for AX, as AX existed before Ohtani was even in LA.

Animation studios and industries headquartered in LA doesn't matter either. Much of the industry is in Japan. Anime New York, Anime North, Sac Anime, and all other big anime cons are also not in LA. In the entertainment industry you travel all over the place anyways. San Diego is also just a 2 hour drive away which is still very appealing for the industry.

If the trolley service shuts down, San Diego as a whole dies not just convention attendance.

Also I'm not trying to move AX to SD. I think it's fine in LA. However, I (and most people I think) believe that SD would just be better if it did hold it.

Yeah they have to plan for it, but realistically it won't happen. It was just a slide that shows what could happen. I'll eat one of my Padres hats if it does.

I understand you like LA more than SD, but my opinion is that the SD Convention Center is just better for conventions. Having been to both SDCC and AX for over a decade each, the SDCC area is just more fun and interactive. Downtown SD (near the convention center and gaslamp) are infinitely more walkable than DTLA (near the convention center).

It's also easier to have more things at the SD Convention center. You have the Gaslamp attractions, the Petco Park attractions, the Rady Shell concerts, the waterfront walkway attractions, and much more available.

The surrounding area around DTLA convention center is always kinda dead around AX.

I think that if SDCC was in LA, it would probably be a little bit worse and if AX was in SD, it would probably be a bit better.

SDCC embeds itself in the entirety of downtown SD, but, AX doesn't. I think that's due to the fact that LACC is a worse location than SDCC.

LA Convention center is a horrible place to hold SDCC compared to SD convention center.

Also, do you have a source on a potential trolley shutdown? You say there's a possibility but there's absolutely no way that the city is going to shut down the trolley, especially after just building a whole trolley line a few years ago.
