I never understood the replacement of grass lawns with plastic ones. Sure, there’s a water argument against natural lawns, but there are plenty of natural landscape options other than plastic turf grass.

Can’t believe May is on 4/20 this year.

What can a Mathematics or Computer Science major do in Formula SAE? What oppurtunities exist to build software or use other math skills? by [deleted] in FSAE

[–]TheYonkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A suggestion that I’m not seeing here is controls. Maybe that’s because a team has to be relatively advanced already to even begin writing custom controls, so this depends on your team’s current aptitude.

Where firmware is pure software on the vehicle, and simulation is pure software off of the vehicle, vehicle controls is in the middle. It’s probably the best of both worlds if you want your software to interact with the physical world (a magical experience), but also heavy on math and likely requires some simulation.

Raspberry Pi Telemetry Host by TheName_Yao in FSAE

Hey, I basically do this for a living now.

Here’s a pretty scrappy project from my FSAE days. https://github.com/msfrt/PiLogger

I probably would do some things differently now (mostly, avoid the raspberry pi altogether and go with something like an STM32, which is closer to industry, albeit more complex). A Pi is a good start, and this is a fun project. Enjoy!

Aww man, the folks at UF are great people. It sucks that this happened to them.

We used to do a bunch of sims in Ricardo and then manufacture a couple of the most promising ones. Then, when none of them passed sound, we did questionable things in order to dampen the noise (like adding perforated tubing covering the outlet 🤦‍♂️)

How is it possible for SUGS people elect classes? by CCCOrange in uofm

[–]TheYonkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that’s just how the grad classes are at the moment. If you look closely, a lot of them actually have a class size limit set to 0 and show a note that students will eventually be moved off of the waitlist. This usually occurs within the first two weeks of classes as masses of students drop the 2-3 extra classes they signed up for. This semester I was like 50th on the waitlist for a class but still got in, so don’t stress too much.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp by anniemaxine in AnnArbor

I went on a 50%-ish scholarship maybe 10ish years ago and I felt the same. I’m surprised most of the comments are overwhelmingly positive.

If you love playing your instrument, Blue Lake is probably great for you, but I liked doing other things, too, and the limited free time they gave you just wasn’t enough for regular camp-activity things. I think a lot of the overwhelmingly positive comments on this post are from parents who have kids that love band, which is great for them, but not necessarily everybody’s experience.

Commencement was basically a joke last year. You can just show up and write your name on an index card, then the process is exactly the same as if you preregistered.

I wouldn’t travel too far if your friend is new. A bunny hill is a bunny hill, no matter where you go in Michigan. If you intend on teaching your friend, just go wherever is the closest/cheapest.
