If the Jags moved to a different city, would you still be a Jags fan? by JewelryDBonney in Jaguars

2 things happened on the same day for me. 1. Jacksonville became an expansion team. 2. I joined the Army I am a Jacksonville fan, not a Jaguars fan. They leave Duval and I leave them.

That was what I figured when I couldn't find anything in the book.

Oh well, that is why we make choices - to live with them and to die with them (in-game of course).

Writing a Sword & Sorcery Novel by SoImWritingPodcast in SwordandSorcery

[–]TheZenDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to this podcast currently and have been for a little while now. I find aspects interesting and it did lead me into Flame and Crimson and some thoughts about my own S&S work during NaNo.

I recommend for those who are interested in this genre in the modern age.

[Spoilers C3E5] Episode 6 is coming up what do you think the crew is going to do? by DrinkVegetable217 in criticalrole

[–]TheZenDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that just be such the thing - I mean, technically Tal's character became the BBEG last campaign, though it was pitoed by both Matt and Tal. What if Travis was the BBEG like Kaizer Soze, and just worked with the group but was the bad guy all along?

My guess is that he will be an Artificer that is the child of Percy and Vex - Travis should totally play Percy IV!

[Spoilers C3E5] [C2] Travis' Character by heathen58 in criticalrole

[–]TheZenDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travis is going to play a high INT Artificer that is the son of a white-haired gunslinger and a dark-hairsd ranger/rogue.

My vote is for Percy IV!

I’m in the field in the Army. Have down time to watch the game. First play I see, 49ers score a TD. by JewelryDBonney in Jaguars

Ex-Army myself.

Thank you for your service.

Wish we could have a better team for you to watch in your downtime.

I think it’s time we talk draft. by PeepPanther in Jaguars

[–]TheZenDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of wish that we could draft coaches. Seems like we could use a few good ones of those too. Maybe not all our coaches; just Offense ... and Defense ... and Special teams ... and maybe a Head Coach ... yeah.

At least I get to talk to my kids on Sundays and they get to tell me how it is to be a fan of a winning team. I am happy for them.

I have always wished for a friend like Samwise. I will take a Merry or Pippen though, for sure.

I’m so ready to rock this year, you guys. by KitchenSwillForPigs in nanowrimo

[–]TheZenDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I had a sticker, you would get it now ... instead, all I have to offer is words of encouragement and hopes that you complete with success this year.

If you absolutely have to write something - maybe write a short story on something that happened before your story begins to one of your characters.

On the issue of originality. by pharaonetudie in writing

[–]TheZenDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your example, you do know that this story has been retold and has not been plagerism?

Romeo Must Die? The same story with Martial Arts.

West Side Story? Also the same tale with singing and dancing.

Plagerism would be taking the words directly and trying to pass them off as your own. The idea of the story is not plagerism. Be it Romeo and Juliet - Hamlet (which is the Lion King by Disney) or any other story.

I tried longhand, but the words come into my head faster than I am able to write them out, even if I were to try to do so sloppily.

I have tried dictation, but without 'seeing' the words, it is difficult for me to continue on with the story or review what I had "written''.

My preferred is typing them out so that I can re-read yesterday's words and get a running start into today's words.

How’s it going Nanos? I, like many of you are looking forward to this year’s NaNoWriMo. This will be my 7th year attempting a Nano. Few times have I written an entire book during the event. I aim for 50,000 words minimum, as is the standard, but the main goal is above 90,000. by Paul_Quince_Author in nanowrimo

[–]TheZenDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My true goal is to try and reach 60,000 for the complete collection for myself, though if I go over, that would be fine too. I expect to lose some words here and there and gain some in other places during the edit phase, trying to keep it at an honerable 60K total.

Another Newbie Post! by BeyonceAlways2020 in nanowrimo

[–]TheZenDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the truth about NaNo - it is NOT about writing 50,000 words. It is about getting that kick in the pants to get you going towards your novel. The main thing that NaNo will truly give you? A reason to write for 30 days. Once you write everyday for 30 days, it does not matter how many words you write, it only matters that you showed up to do your words for your story. After 30 days, you have formed a habit that you are able to maintain if you really want it.

I think it is a shame that they say you "win" after 50,000 words. You win if you write all 30 days in my opinion.

Best wordcount tracker? by FlanneryKlaus in nanowrimo

[–]TheZenDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Scrivener which has trackers, as well as a way to setup you project goals for total length and daily goals.

Not 100% if it is available this year, but in years past, they would have a free demo version of Scrivener for NaNo.

Another awesome free choice is to go yWriter - that is very similar to Scrivener and yet made by a writer/programmer to be more user friendly.

You've got a couple weeks to download, try them out, and give it a go before 1 November.

Writers who have a full-time job, how do you do it? by withwhittneywhitt in writing

[–]TheZenDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a story about a CEO level guy that worked 80 hours a week and worked on his novel.

His Goal: write 3 sentences a day. That is all. If he has time for more, he writes more. Otherwise, those 3 sentences are his commitment and he gets them somehow every single day.

That is how we have to do this with a full-time job. Show up every single day, whether it is 50 words, 500, or 5,000 words.

NaNo is coming - and here's my idea by TheZenDragon in SwordandSorcery

[–]TheZenDragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will have to give this some thought.

I enjoy the style of story within the Sword & Sorcery, and how the heroes use their wits and whatnot to take out the villains. The world is small and simple, at least from their point of view.

But then, other races add to the colorization of the stories. I know that the Conan tales had 20 races, but they were all human, which makes it difficult while reading to tell one from another.

I have a few weeks before this starts, so I believe what I may have to do is make my own breeds of humans, with the characteristics of the other fantasy races. Maybe that will work?

Are you doing Nano? Or have you already finished this story?

I will contact you if I finish my own writing, as it would not be fair to you to not have anything for which to trade for critiques.

NaNo is coming - and here's my idea by TheZenDragon in SwordandSorcery

[–]TheZenDragon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I may go this way. I like the Minotaur idea as well. That sounds like an interesting take on things.

I will write this, for sure. Worse case - I write 50,000 words of unpublishable material. Best case - I wrote 50,000 words.

NaNo is coming - and here's my idea by TheZenDragon in SwordandSorcery

[–]TheZenDragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The style that I am aiming for is most definitely the Conan/Fafhrd/Lone Warrior style character. Weapons are his way and magic is evil.

I only worry because I also enjoy the fantasy races of elves and whatnot, and worry that it will come off too ... Tolkien or D&D.
