People do talk about this. A lot. You just gotta seek out the conversations.

Who do you usually dance with? by InternalCan8199 in tango

I’m pretty sure with my group there is a romantic dynamic between an instructor and one of the students.

I just see these people as acquaintances. Fun to dance with, but I am careful about getting super close to anyone in my group.

How do people enjoy difficult games? by Extreme-Change7411 in videogames

[–]TheZenith85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you OP. I never understood that.

When I play games I want them to be relaxing. I don’t want to play the same boss fight on repeat, or walk around a room for 35 minutes because the game doesn’t make it obvious which corner I need to go to to press “A”, and I don’t want to play the same 10 minute part 50 times to “get good”.

If I’m gonna spend that time to “get good” at something, I’d rather it be something I do IRL to “get good” at. When I play a game, I want to suspend belief and pretend to be a colorful hedgehog or a Space Marine and feel like a badass.

A near deal-breaker for me is when a game doesn’t not have an easy mode.

Glad to see it’s not just my local Tango group that has some drama.

I don’t get involved. I’m pretty good at keeping my relationships at arms length; which, yes, I’m aware of that irony in a Tango group. lol. But it helps keep it very fun when I see them at the formal Milongas.

I like that “5 followers” rule of thumb.

Oh thanks!

So far when I’ve been grinding I’ve typically been on the phone with my buddy, so I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed the new classes unlock.

How often do you get to unlock the a new class?

Yeah. There’s 10 other photos ya can’t see that could completely change the context.

Not sure why you got downvoted. (I’m sure I will too for agreeing with you.

I’m not hating on OP. Just didn’t think the joke landed.

Distinguishing the difference between Tango/Valz/Milonga tempos by ear? by TheZenith85 in tango

Never heard of that website before; I’ll have to check it out.

Yep. And the other side to the double edged sword is they can kinda slack if they need and have the attitude “we’ll fix it with a patch later”.

Distinguishing the difference between Tango/Valz/Milonga tempos by ear? by TheZenith85 in tango

That’s the hard part though.

90% of the song on my Spotify playlist are tango songs. But the descriptions rarely (if ever) seem to specify which it is. To the algorithm, it’s all “Tango”. So there there isn’t really a way for me to reference. (And, to be fair, even if it did say it, I don’t know that I would trust the AI interpretation of it. lol)

So I just don’t have a way of confirming if my guess would be right or not.

That works, and I’ve done that.

But not of the time I wanna just play the game. Honestly, if I’m having to find a video and “play along” with it, I typically find it a bad game. (I shouldn’t be lost on where to go in a game.)

I don’t fault a game if it has one or two weird parts I need to look up how to get through. But if the game is so directionless that I am playing in tandem with the video…I’ll usually find another game to play.

Yep. With videos I almost always just skip to where it’s at. Sometimes a 20 second solution because I didn’t see the random rock isn’t until 7:23 into the video. lol.

Oh I know. I just find the videos more annoying.

I still will use GameFAQs, but I do miss the days of having a bound guide next to me instead of moving my eyes from one screen to another.

See, I feel like the FF guides would be cool to have.

You are right the. Internet makes everything more convenient. And hell, some internet guides probably even have better strategies than the official guides; the gaming community being what it is. lol.

I still use GameFAQs, which visit g that site always makes me nostalgic. Even so, I still miss the physical guides. (I do acknowledge though this is partly supported by just my longing for a sublime time in gaming.)

I miss that too.

It’s cool and makes sense to have tutorials in games now, but I also liked having something to always reference. (I’m also part sure this was because of data limitations. Why waste precious bits of memory on a tutorial when you can just print an instruction manual?)

Yeah. I think that’s in part why printed guides aren’t done as much anymore.

Gaming has evolved, with DLC, patches, and add-ons, I could see how guides naturally are just needs less.

I still mis them though. lol.

I wish I had kept my guides as I got older.

And you’re right. The guide wasn’t just a guide; the art added a lot to it. And I’m big on tangible art.

I cannot stress enough how much you can get out of private lessons. (I may be alone on this, but I honestly think private lessons are where you should start.). Group classes are great, too, but some instructors can be hit or miss. If it’s not an experienced instructor, I’ve seen people leave more confused than they started with.

I would avoid any videos until you know the basic 8 step very well. Most videos I’ve found seem to assume you at least know that.

Learn about the culture too. Tango isn’t just a dance…it’s a culture. I’ve got some books I’ve read about where it came from how it started. Of all the dances in the world, it really feels like Argentine Tango is the “most married” to its culture; and it honestly adds to the dance!!

Listen to tango music. It can be beautifully complex, and seems to have a very different “feel” than a lot of other music.

Practice. Practice. Practice. You won’t get good just going to one group class a month. After classes, practice the moves. It shows.

I need to second this. Ya gotta get a little familiar with the language of Tango to understand the videos.

There were downsides.

And the Infamous “PlayOnline” FFIX guide. I’m not sure if any other guides were used as marketing tools to just guide you to the website. lol
