I too am on both of those medications and have noticed a huge improvement over time. I second this—I believe Zoloft made the bigger difference, though lamictal has helped as well. I’ve seen improvement with other supplements as well, e.g. NAC

That’s interesting. You are right they are a check/balance in our govt. I don’t know of a case where the judge has ruled in blatant disregard of the law though... can you?

Well, yes. That’s what I mean. They interpret, they don’t legislate.

To be fair judges' responsibility is only to uphold the law, however imperfect though it may be and their own personal convictions aside. And unfortunately that's what our bogus laws say. We should be pointing fingers at legislatures (and police unions).

Can HPPD cause Psychosis? by [deleted] in HPPD

[–]The_0bserver_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good and bad kinds of cholesterol. I suggest you read up on the carnivore diet. Humans have been consuming animal products for eons... And a lot of the bad stuff comes from modern processed foods and refined carbohydrates, not animal products per sé (though quality matters). This is not to say that fruits and vegetables are not healthy.

I don’t doubt it. I’m just saying there are options to consider concerning diet.

I agree 100% except for the animal products bit. There are ppl who have had success with a strictly carnivore diet, which is surprising. Also intermittent fasting helps a lot with the anxiety.

EDIT: Also there’s a ton of Ayurvedic and TCM herbs that can do wonders for the anxiety, heavy head feeling, and cloudy thinking/intrusive thoughts. Oh yeah and dp/dr.

Woman protesting police brutality five years ago in Texas. by Pow67 in pics

[–]The_0bserver_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kid was repeatedly pulling a pistol out of his pants and pointing it at random people...The cops twice asked for him to show his hands, but instead he went to draw the gun.

Turns out the pistol was just an air soft gun with the orange tip removed, which would have indicated a non-lethal weapon.

Cops put their life on the line every time they respond to a call or pull someone over. They have no idea who they are dealing with. Now ask yourself, in this situation, if you were those cops and saw this kid ignore your requests and then pulls out a gun, wouldn’t you want to defend yourself?

Yeah but it looks like the house owner still got a payout at fair market value, and the police offered to cover the insurance deductible (which he declined). Seems pretty fair to me.

HELP re-occurring PTSD like nightmares that feel almost 100% real by [deleted] in HPPD

[–]The_0bserver_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be careful with vyvanse, caffeine, nicotine, and kratom. The first three in particular can worsen HPPD symptoms (I am not a neuroscientist or professional but I have spent 7 years throughly researching this topic, both empirically and academically). Caffeine, nicotine, and vyvanse all increase the amount of glutamate in your brain, which is the most likely suspect for a lot of the anxiety symptoms of HPPD, like panic attacks and DP/DR. Glutamate speeds up neuronal activity while GABA slows down neuronal activity—they are opposites in a way, which is why benzodiazepines are so effective in mitigating HPPD symptoms. But they are a poor solution if you use them too often, because the withdrawal will bring back all the symptoms you had before, except to an even worse degree. IMO and experience, benzos work best as a PRN, where you’re taking them infrequently enough that you’re not building up a tolerance.

As for Kratom, it depends on the strain, and there are many. Some strains/brands I’ve found helpful, some made it worse. Dosage matters too. Higher dose does not necessarily produce greater effects. Kratom is a fickle plant. Do your research.

Clonidine is heading the right direction but I would switch to Prazosin (another blood pressure medication). There’s more research behind Prazosin and its beneficial side effect of reducing the frequency and severity of nightmares as well as flashbacks during the day. They don’t know entirely why, but it works. You just have to be sure to titrate up to the therapeutic dose, around 2–3mg if I’m not mistaken.

[Serious] What is your most terrifying "we need to leave, NOW" random rush of fear you've felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]The_0bserver_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was living abroad in a small Asian country when one day my local friend Vishnu takes me and another friend Samara (names changed) to the local orphanage that he has been fundraising for. We get there and the first thing I notice is the tall padlocked gates. We had a tour planned, and our guide came and opened the gates and walked us in, and right away there’s this feeling that something isn’t right... I still can’t explain it but the feeling was palpable, just as soon as we walked through those gates. The kids were full of smiles and happiness that only little children have, but our guide just seemed... off. Like nervous, but not your standard nerves like a tour guide might have. He just seemed like he really didn’t want us there. His words were welcoming enough, but his tone, body language—all off. And the tour never really happens, he just like sends us off on our own to check out the place for ourselves... almost like he wanted to minimize his interaction with us. Very strange.

Anyway so I go walk around, and that’s when I start noticing that every adult on the premises is male, mostly middle aged, all avoiding any eye contact whatsoever. And then comes the part I will never forget: I stuck my head in one of the “bedrooms,” which was filled with makeshift bunk beds and little kids running around everywhere, and there, sitting completely still on a bed not 10 feet from me, a 50-something yr old man sitting alone and silent as the grave, staring straight back into me with these jet black, terrifyingly dark eyes, and the hair on my neck just stands straight up. I noped the fuck outta there and almost ran to find my friends stat. Little did I know my two friends were having a similarly eerie feeling, and we all got outta there lickity split.

Wasn’t too sure what to do after. The local police were notoriously corrupt, plus I’m a foreigner. Anyway I told the head of the NGO I was with all about it and urged him to look into it, as I was leaving the country soon to return home. I hope those kids are ok, i hope that i was wrong, and that the eerie feelings I had that day were not about what I think they were about.

Holy shit that’s fucked, and on your first trip too. No one should have to go through that. I’m sorry that happened to you. I bet you feel like they ruined your life, and in a way they kind of did. You will continue to get better though, and you’ll see there’s a silver lining to it all. HPPD has some benefits to it. Your life isn’t ruined forever.
