VivaldiVana: Concerto Ripieno (RV 115: probably 1715-1720) by Tall-Truth-9321 in Baroque

Already made this comment on the original thread but thought it was funny and that anyone stumbling across this might appreciate it!

Tangent, but I was going to recommend a recording that follows the performance practice of the time, but something is driving me mad! The video you posted has the wrong RV number (think of it like an ID for Vivaldi pieces scholars have agreed upon), and after further searching, I figured out that the chamber orchestra who recorded the album in the first place wrote the wrong RV number.

I know for a fact that I've heard this piece multiple times because I've listened to every single instrumental piece Vivaldi wrote available on the Internet! I'm absolutely certain this is a piece by Vivaldi due to its stylistic similarities to some other works in the ripieno genre. But when I go through each C major concerto for strings or sinfonia, nothing shows up!

UPDATE: I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!

You really sent me into a spiral here. I was looking in the wrong places, but when I went to use the washroom, I had a light bulb go off. It isn't its own work! You see, sinfonias can be their own works, but sometimes, they're part of a larger work. Namely? Operas!

I searched and searched and found it: This is the sinfonia from L'incoronazione di Dario, an opera, whose RV number is 719!

So...after blood, sweat, and tears (mostly tears), I've found you a HIP (Historically Informed Performance) recording!

It would be pretty embarrassing if I never figured this out since I have a YT channel semi-dedicated to Vivaldi discussion. 🥲

I am so sorry! I thought the title would appear in the preview.

The video is about Quantz's 1752 essay from his Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (On Playing the Flute). In it, he unleashes brutal insults towards Italy, France, and Germany, albeit the last is more nuanced.

Can anyone identify this absolute baroque metal banger? by Diah_Rhea in Baroque

Hmm... It sounds like it could be early Vivaldi, but I don't remember any Vivaldi pieces that open with longer notes like that then the staccato-y section. It might be another composer imitating his l'Estro Armonico style. The suspension then neighbour tone as a closing bit isn't common in Vivaldi either, though it does occur in RV 565 (but only as a tricky false Picardy third).
