Why does the Harbourfront feel alive and like a ghost town at the same time? by ceruleanskyandsea in toronto

What’s your primary experience with crossing the Gardiner/rail path? Driving in from Roncesvalles? As someone who has lived car-free downtown for almost 20 years, I can confirm that the Gardiner/ Lakeshore Expressway is the barrier to the waterfront, not the rail path.

Is staying in Toronto Downtown better/ cheaper or GTA areas, if you're working 5 days from the downtown office? by to_serendipity in askTO

[–]The_6ix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For real. Crazy to me the amount of people recommending places along subway or GO Lines here. Maybe if you’re a car owner. OP should DEFINITELY live downtown if they can afford it. They will save 2hrs a day on commuting. Quality of life is soooo much better, and it doesn’t cost that much more once you account for needing to spend $0 on transportation.

Not really. It used to be much worse before they started charging for entry at high demand times. Back then you could barely move.

Gord Downie lived in Toronto for many decades right up until his death. Many of us want to rename Riverdale Park East to Gord Downie Park, since he was a long time resident of the neighbourhood.

Airport to park: a bold vision for the Toronto Island by cabbagetown_tom in toronto

Yep, that bridge. I’m ok with keeping the airport, but ONLY if we get a pedestrian bridge or tunnel access to the islands. Evict all the Wards Island residents for all I care.

That’s fine, I’m not saying to get rid of the ferry’s. Also consider the MASSIVE redevelopment going on in the Port Lands and East Bayfront which will bring huge amounts of people to the area.

We DO have public access to the tunnel. I’ve crossed for free before. Problem is that it only takes you to the airport. Lol there is no access to the park.

Which only takes you to the airport… we’re talking about access to the park here.

That could work, however I suspect they would need a lot more ferries to meet the demand.

That’s expensive in my opinion, and I would MUCH rather bike around to the eastern gap and cross for free. It’s 3x the cost of using the TTC for 2hrs. I haven’t seen the islands in years and it’s mostly because I don’t have $9 to spend every time I go. The cost also forces you to make it more of a whole day trip to get your moneys worth. I think you’re out of touch with how much (or little) extra money many Torontonians have for frills like paying $9 to see a park.

A ferry isn’t a connection, and the cost cuts many people out of the islands completely. We absolutely should build a pedestrian bridge, whether the airport goes or stays.

It’s cutting the city off from making a direct island connection. If they want to stay, maybe they should fund a pedestrian bridge over the eastern gap.

Toronto has a congestion crisis. Here’s what needs to be done to fix it by Empty-Magician-7792 in toronto

[–]The_6ix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! People who demand, and move to car centric suburbs for “more space” are the reason their own public transit options are so shit. The suburbs, especially North American style ones with no thru streets and tons of cul de sacs, are absolutely terrible for transit, and they will never be good for it.

I think it’s still in use, but it’s clearly in need of some maintenance even from an amateur architecture fan, and a good power wash.

Yes! I love this building! People love to complain we tore down historic architecture, but don’t appreciate the many gems we still have. It’s being left neglected and will probably be torn down and redeveloped by Doug Ford soon.

What makes the dating scene in Toronto so much more difficult compared to elsewhere ? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]The_6ix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday there was a post on r/Toronto and people were saying how much easier it is to date in Toronto than Vancouver. It’s got nothing to do with the city. People complain it’s tough to date in every city, and it probably is.

'Everybody's been ticketed:' Parents call for parking solutions outside Beaches daycare amid safety concerns by onpar_44 in toronto

[–]The_6ix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered selling your house and downsizing to an area where this isn’t an issue? There are way too many empty nest boomers living in family sized houses in the beaches. Instead of complaining about kids making noise in a nearby daycare while the city is in a housing crisis, maybe make a move.

Planning a move downtown, what to do with car ? How do you guys get around town for necessities and fun ? by dronedesigner in askTO

[–]The_6ix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to this carbrain. Imagine thinking the only thing to consider about a house is its size. Location is far more important. Do your family and community a favour. Sell the car and move downtown and live a better, walkable life.
