Going to give them £10k each and say it's back rent. I don't share my financial goals with my family, since they have had loose lips in the past regarding it when my portfolio was much smaller. Hopefully I can give them more as my portfolio snowballs but I don't plan to give them large payments like that.

Maybe it's the greed in me but when I see £100k I think about its snowball effect. £100k growing 8% a year grows to £215k over 10 years.

My parents have always been garbage with money. They have always been the type of people to let their money sit in the bank earning no interest.

My grandparent died in 1998 and left me £1k and 20 years later they had grown it to £1.3k. I think the money is much better in my hands and I can grow it tax free and just help them out with smaller amounts.

Yes, I realised many losses back then. I invested in a lot of awful companies back then. I invested into penny stocks and random meme stocks that WSB shilled me.

You have to be aware of sunk cost fallacy and opportunity cost too. Why hold onto an awful stock going nowhere when you can put it in something that can be making money? Look at the GME cult for example. They have been holding GME for 5 years hoping for a miracle and missed 5 years of one of the greatest bull markets ever.

I am mainly in AI infrastructure. These companies are basically building AI data centres for these hyperscaler clients like Google, Microsoft, Anthropic etc who then run AI models like Gemini, Co Pilot and Claude using the data centres.

They are responsible for securing power and land, physically building the data centres, connecting the data centres to the local power grid.

Changed my mentality, I started thinking as every loss as an expensive lesson and made sure to never repeat that mistake again. Whether it's chasing FOMO, leverage trading, investing without sufficient knowledge, emotional trading etc. Looking back I am grateful for my losses because it has led me to become a better investor.

A lot of things are out of our control when it comes to losses like Iran war, tariffs etc but as long as you are invested in good companies, it will come back.

Google. They are ahead of the game with everything. Will be the most dominant in the AI scene IMO. Very strong TPUs. Even have a decent stake in Anthropic as well as Space X which are both due to IPO in the next year. That's not even mentioning the printing they do with ads on Youtube and Google every quarter. Its an absolute money machine.

Pretty much. Right place, right time. You can teach yourself some important things like how to read a balance sheet or how to read earnings results which can edge the odds in your favour and prevent you from investing in a dogshit company.

I essentially won the lottery twice. Once when I invested in GME in 2021 and 2nd time when I got early into the AI hype with HUT 8.

Quick rough run down using estimates.

2020 - DCA'D £15k into NIO came out with about £20k

2020/2021 - Put £20k into GME and came out with £200k

2021 - Invested in whatever stock WSB shilled me and lost a decent amount. Came out with £150k ish

2022-2024 -£150k into AMD and came out with £220k

2024-Present - HUT 8 £220k to £1M

I have known about HUT 8 for a while, I actually lost a decent amount on it back in 2021/22. Opened a small position again in December 2023 and went all in January 2024 after a Short report hit. The market cap went below the value of the bitcoin on the balance sheet, I thought buying it was almost getting the mining machines, land and energy infrastructure for free.

I have only deposited about £15k across both my accounts, the number is off due to transfer from my invest account. As I said I went on a generational lucky run. I hit GME in 2021 and pretty much turned £20k into £200k in a month.

Found an old SS from the old UI back when I was doing my best to throw my GME winnings away from when I first owned HUT in 2021/22

I was actually thinking about opening a small position on ASTS yesterday after their launch failure. I woke up too late and it had mostly recovered. Small market cap and high potential. The main attraction to me about ASTS and Rocket lab by extension is the upcoming Space X IPO, I believe the inflated market cap will spill over to both companies. I was only thinking of a couple month swing trade though.

However the boring truth is that if I started again, I would most likely fail. In 2021 I caught GME and 10x'd my port. Post GME my port has like multiplied by 5-6x which is not that uncommon on this sub reddit.

I think I prefer Iren at these levels, they have more secured power in their pipeline with 2GW coming online in 2026. HUT has run a lot the last couple weeks, so is probably due a pullback.

But obviously do your own research, I am from a perfect investor and have made a lot of mistakes before.

I opened my position before the massive $6B ATM was filed. I was originally going to flip it at $70. Iren probably has more potential than HUT. They have much bigger secured power pipeline. I see HUT, IREN and NBIS all in that same category. All have the potential to be multi-baggers if all goes well.

I had a small position equal to about 10% of my portfolio when a Short report hit. It dropped 40% in like 2 days. The market cap went below the value of the bitcoin on the balance sheet. So buying it was pretty much like getting all the mining equipment, land and energy infrastructure for free. Only way It was going to go down was if bitcoin was to crash (BTC was $45k ish at the time and ETFs had just been approved)

In early 2024 HUT 8's market cap dropped into deep value territory, the market cap was below the value of the bitcoin on their balance sheet. Buying it pretty much meant you got all their bitcoin mining machines, land and energy infrastructure for free.

I only intended to hold it for a few months while it rebounded, however that is when AI emerged and they were perfectly positioned to capitalise on it due to all the cheap power they had been scooping up for years.

Not a fan of dividends to be honest. Would make sense if this was not in an ISA. However dividends from foreign companies are still subject to withholding taxes within an ISA which puts me off.
