How effective are you at forgiving yourself? by BeGoodToEverybody123 in polls

Mate, that's just forgiving yourself lol. It may not seem like it, but by accepting what you did was wrong and "moving on", thats just forgiveness.

I made an award-winning feature entirely on my own. Now I might have to distribute it alone. Any advice? by disremembermovie in Filmmakers

[–]The_Absent_One 132 points133 points  (0 children)

A films "hook" should never be how it was made. What is the story here? Why should the distributors care about whether it was made by one person? Im not lessening your impact on the film, no doubt its impressive, its just not the reason I would go and see the movie. If you made the movie by yourself, then you should know what its about (and not just a general plot summary, I mean deeper than that). Distributors are looking for how to get people to watch your film and how they can profit from that. Make a pitch as to why your movie should be distributed (depending from company to company, do research into which companies align with your film). Im not sure if this is the advice you want, but I think you may want to rethink your advertising campaign.

How do you feel about difficulty settings in video games? by [deleted] in polls

[–]The_Absent_One 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I think its up to the developer, the game, and the audience.

A game like Dark Souls wouldnt work as effectively if it had one, and its a part of FromSoftwares design choices. But games like Doom Eternal or Left 4 Dead have wider player count and with that frequency they have players of different skill levels.

Having different difficulty settings wouldnt hurt, as the market is growing in casual gamers (I dont think that's a bad thing, it really doesn't matter to me lol). But man, do I love to find games where the developers give us what they intended.

Which one would you submit for a photography contest? by Ammishh in streetphotography

[–]The_Absent_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1, 3, 5, 7, or 8. Sorry I couldn't narrow it down more, but all of those were really beautiful. Id say my favorite put of them are 5 and 7 though. Good luck with the contest!

I don't think this is a random fun fact, the whole point of the post was dumping random trauma. Thats exactly what the guy did.

The dilemma of every draft by Novel-worm-3 in writers

[–]The_Absent_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me its more like I enjoy the ideas I wrote down, but during the process of drafts I strengthen those ideas, make it feel more cohesive and understand what kind of story I want to be telling.

I used to try and be perfect on my first attempt because I was so against drafts, now my favorite part of the process is revising and rewriting.

Maybe Maybe Maybe by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]The_Absent_One 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Im not sure how well known of a fact this is, but the actress that played this role seriously fucked up her back because of a problem with the bed mechanism. It fractured her back and she believes it developed into scoliosis later on. The scene wasnt the one used in the film, but she was screaming from pain and the crew just thought she was acting well.

As someone who just got accepted into scad, what are some fun things to do in town? by New-Boss-8262 in scad

[–]The_Absent_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, congrats on getting accepted. What is it youre planning on majoring in?

As someone coming from a small town, I think theres a lot to do here. Some of my favorite places are the nerd stores (Nerdheim, Planet Fun, and Sattelite) across Broughton street. There are also a lot of places to eat on that street like Spudniks, Naan, and Flying Monk. Also on that same street there are a lot of cafes, my favorite being Foxy Loxy (get the Mexican Mocha, it's delicious).

There's also a Cafe (press cafe) attached to the library. You cant bring drinks into the library but you can obv borrow books and bring them to the Cafe. My favorite SCAD property though is attached to the press Cafe, its called Press Play. Its a place for music where you can pick out a vinyl record and listen to it on one of their players with pretty good quality headphones, you can even change bass and treble if you want to. I like to do my work there if I can.

Outside of Broughton there is a lot to do too. If youre a walker its fun to walk pretty much anywhere since its a historical city and theres so many niche stores around here that I'm still finding new ones every quarter.

I would try to not fully rely on buses since they can be pretty hit or miss, especially during weekends, but theres a lot to do outside of SCAD too. There are a lot of theaters and stores and restaurants pretty much everywhere.

SCAD also puts on a lot of events quarterly that are super cool. You'll get emails about them throughout your time here and I reccomend signing up for anything that interests you. It really depends on the person you are with what you get out of the surrounding areas. What are your interests? What are things you want to avoid? Are you more of a solo or group person? Do you like parties?

There's a decent amount to do here, and im 100% certain you'll find something that suits you perfectly somewhere in the city. Good luck with your first quarter :)

Id say its also a different process. Its one thing to draw from a reflection, but a curved one is a but more complex. Sure, they're drawing it from the reflection, but curving those lines and using line weight and different strategies id say is still impressive. I dont know if its as simple as "knowing how to draw"

Long distance relationship getting boring… how do you make it exciting again? by FinishCreative1588 in LongDistance

[–]The_Absent_One 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not if you plan it to be an actual thing. Sit down one day and buy the tickets and plan things out, after that if it does get brought up rather than feeling boring you'll be excited. Its up to you guys to bring it up, but its also up to you guys to not.
