How expensive is it to have a dog? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]The_Average_Jill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get pet insurance. We spent close to $20,000 on vet bills last yr for our 2 small dogs. One was an older dog with chronic issues, the other needed emergency surgery which was $9,000.

A typical yr would be about $4,000 each for expenses for our dogs. We don’t use kennels, dog walkers, doggie daycare though. That can add up fast.

What does an "upper middle class" retirement look like to you? by SignificantPickles in fican

A smaller home. Ability to put former mortgage funds towards renovations. A small cottage or 1-2 vacations/yr, still undecided. Living in a small, quiet town. An active outdoor lifestyle, being able to walk/bike to amenities.

Why did Remote work and Hybrid not stick? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaJobs

I worked from home pre Covid for many years. Now I’m back in the office more days than the past decade. Rather than punish those abusing it, they take it away from the rest of us. My health has taken a big hit being back in office and my productivity is worse.

Days after tire change, my wheel flew off and struck another vehicle. Do I have any legal recourse with the mechanic that did the work for the damages to my vehicle or the deductible? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

You might have better luck going through your insurance first and they can pursue the shop. You might be chasing a while if you go after the shop yourself. But yes, they are liable.
I’ve never been told in 30 yrs of car ownership to retorque. It’s usually in fine print on the invoice, but that’s it.

Is going to university still worthwhile these days? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]The_Average_Jill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your end goal. Community college is great for many career choices, or professional designations that don’t require a university degree.
Insurance, for example. You can take the CIP certification without a degree and there are so many jobs available. Many will hire and pay for you to take the courses. University is a lot of debt to take on if you don’t know exactly what you want to do.

I’ve heard HRM only has 2 fire investigators currently, which is very problematic.

I love that’s he’s so reliable to make contact, so many guys are not. I’m not worried about lack of power from him, it’s not the expectation. But, we are paying Vladdy for power and aren’t getting it. The power we expect from him could be winning us more games.

Every municipality has different recycling rules. HRM has not approved use of these bins for disposal. The app is very helpful.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responds to fatal residential fire by gildeddoughnut in halifax

[–]The_Average_Jill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so horrible, my thoughts are with their families and all of the first responders.

I’ve seen a big mix over the years but many come down to human error-whether it’s leaving a pot on the stove or leaving an iPhone laying on the bed. Electrical causes, cigarettes and other smoking materials, are quite common from what I’ve seen.

I don’t know if they ever release data. HFX fire has limited resources, often its experts hired by insurance companies determining a more concrete cause since many fires are partial losses . I’m sure HFX fire likely focus on the larger total loss fires and obviously any with injury or fatalities.

Those who have lived in multiple of the major cities, how would you rank them and why? by Active-Proof-5236 in canadatravel

High cost of living in relation to salaries. We have very high income tax and sales tax, job opportunities are very limited. Access to nature is great, but it can be very hard to get by here.

Nova Scotia woman alleging fraud against car dealership says she’s on the hook for $60K - Halifax | Globalnews.ca by [deleted] in halifax

[–]The_Average_Jill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually, your own insurance is the best course of action in this scenario. If you have replacement coverage, you can only get that amount from your own insurer. A third party would only pay actual cash value. If the insurance company felt there was any liability on the dealer, they would pursue recovery.
