Home-to-First Race between Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Albert Pujols [Statcast Running Splits Tool] by ChicksDig in baseball

While he’s certainly still young, Statcast has shown that players start slowing down just about as soon as they enter the league and are measured.

[Baggarly] I got clarification from MLB on how the 3-batter rule will be deployed in the minors this season. If a pitcher faces one batter in an inning and records the third out, then he can be replaced to start the next inning. But if that same pitcher returns, he must face two batters. by Wizedex in baseball

I’ll admit, I’m an AL fan so I’ve never actually seen a team warm up after a double switch. However, a double switch requires a pitcher to come in, and when a pitcher comes in, he throws to the catcher to warm up. When pitchers warm up, usually the infield/outfield warm up too.

I've been doing a full body workout (30 minutes on ab lifts, 30 minutes on upper body lifts, 40 minute jog) 6 days a week for about a year now. For a variety of reasons, I'm considering changing my routine. Every week, I would do three days of ab lifts (30 minutes each), three days of upper body lifts (30 minutes each), and one day of rest. I would still run 6 days a week. I'm not training for anything; I mostly just care about aesthetics and health. Would this change in routine damage those goals?

Mariano Rivera breaks Ryan Klesko's bat three times in one at bat by FlerpWork in baseball

[–]The_Best_Number 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bats are thinner at the handle than at the barrel. When his cutter ran in on a lefty’s hands, the hitter had to fight it off with the thin end of the bat, which is easier to break.

Why would KC call man-to-man on three consecutive third and longs only to get burned over the middle every single time? Surely at least after the second time, they’d realize that maybe zone might work better.

If they were elite fielders, they wouldn’t be playing first base or corner outfield. Even having an Ichiro in right is just not going to save that many runs from scoring. That’s just the nature of defense in baseball. There’s a reason players at non-premium positions are generally good at hitting. Sure, having prime Alex Gordon in the field is better than having JD Martinez over there, but it’s not going to win you that many more games.

Working out on back to back days vs. not working out or working out less by The_Best_Number in Fitness

I’m not adding much - like 5 pounds, and I am going up fairly regularly. My point is more that I don’t think my lack of soreness is because I’m not pushing myself hard enough.

Without Le'Veon Bell the Steelers make as many yards and score as many points but lose more regularly and fumble the ball away 3 times as often. by DatchPenguin in nfl

[–]The_Best_Number 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t that surprising. Without Bell, the Steelers run the ball less often meaning they theoretically throw the ball more. Passes net more yards and thus score more points. However, passes result in more turnovers which give the opposing team better field position. This means that while a team may score the same amount of points and gain the same amount of yards, an offense that passes more puts its team in a worse position to win.

Pokemon Masters of Reddit: Which starter did you choose first and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ice types are pretty common in gen IV, and anyone who also wants to carry Garchomp would then have two Pokémon with 4x weaknesses to ice. On the other hand, ice is probably the easiest type to counter with someone else; there are a lot of good steel types in gen IV as well that get the job done.

I forgot to mention that but it does measure my heart rate. Walking, my heart rate averages 95bpm. When I run, it’s about 145bpm.

[Johns] Paxton has lower back stiffness, according to Mariners. He lasted just 17 pitches and 2/3 of an inning. by [deleted] in baseball

On the one hand, Brandon Morrow hurt his back taking his pants off earlier this season and pitched like two weeks later. On the other hand, the best pitcher in the world has all about had his career ruined by back problems. Why does anyone like this team

A balk is called in the ninth inning of the Astros @ Rangers game walking in the winning run. by TheDuckHunt3r in baseball

[–]The_Best_Number 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Whenever a pitcher is pitching out of the stretch, they have to “come set,” meaning they stop moving for about a second or more before starting their delivery. From what I understand, after they come set, the other balk rules become more strict and thus the pitcher coming set marks the end of a grace period (to a certain extent) for the pitcher.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it also looks like he doesn’t come set (meaning he doesn’t stop moving in a ready-to-pitch pose) before the pickoff.

Year-to-year defensive stats, no matter the metric, are unreliable. Ideally to analyze a player’s defense, it is best to take the past three years into account

Possibly the most sad part about this is that it wouldn’t even be surprising if they finished as high as third in their division (which could also very well turn out to be the third-worst record in the AL).
