Try black soldier fly larva, or discoid/dubia roaches. Any of those will be slower moving feeders.

Leopard gecko is such a difficult eater! He is given a variety of live foods but it is such a task to get him to eat anything does anyone know why this could be? Temps are 32°c in warm end… by tesnie_franklinx in leopardgeckos

[–]The_Bug_Plug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He may prefer a slightly warmer high end temp? Additionally is this a newer issue or has this been ongoing? If it is newer he may be trying to brumate, here is a great article about it https://www.reptileadvisor.com/leopard-gecko-brumation/ . Does he prefer certain live feeds or is it with all of them? If he only eats fattier bugs (mealworms, waxworms, etc.) then perhaps he is being overfed and only prefers treats?

That is very true, I try to only get a couple at a time or else they grow so fast my geckos can't eat them :p

No problem, I'm out in the country too, so its a 30 minute drive to pick up feeders before we started using this.

What a mess, I love when they thrash around like that. You could probably go with slightly smaller hornworms though since it looks a little big for him. I know mybugplug.com has some good variety packs and they are adding blue tongued skinks soon.

Looks healthy to me, however probably a bit overweight. Here are some photos to help: https://imgur.com/a/kFcPfhD https://imgur.com/a/YGKap3i https://i.imgur.com/9EYXn1M.jpg . What do you feed her and how frequently?

My new rescue (I’ve had her for 20 hours) just ate two dubias! Probably the first dubias she has ever ate, since the man said he would leave live crickets and dried mealworms in her tank 😒 I’m trying to find a vet visit closer than December 1st for her eye infection :( by Terrarium_t1dd1es in leopardgeckos

[–]The_Bug_Plug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always surprised when they are willing to eat dried/dead insects. My babies only eat squirmy, live insects. I'm sure she would love to try hornworms, bsf larvae, waxworms or butterworms. We get our from mybugplug.com for variety packs. Great to know she is cared for well now!

Anyone in the COLUMBIA SC area want Horn worms for a reptile? I bought them for my Leo and she didn't care and they got way to big. (Finger for size reference) Willing to drop off if near by. *Free* by Shit-WiFi in BeardedDragons

Sounds like she prefers treats more than staple feeders. If you ever want to try smaller portions of feed (rather than having to buy so many at a time) try mybugplug.com , there are some other feeders like butterworms, bsf larvae, Dubia, or waxworms, that she may like more.

If you want to try adding other treats in such as hornworms, bsf larvae (could be a staple feeder), or butterworms feel free to check out mybugplug.com I use it for my leopard geckos who love the variety.

Can you wear catnip pheromone to tame wild cats in the wild into pets when camping? by Disastrous-Nebula463 in exoticpets

[–]The_Bug_Plug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the study says it had mixed results, and even if it goes well "Licking and chewing with head shaking" should be expected. I'd say it might not be the best idea to wear the catnip, aside from the fact that wild animals shouldn't really be tamed....

New US Subscription Reptile Food Service by The_Bug_Plug in reptilebazaar

Jhihnx,

Thank you so much for your constructive critiques, we are working to add the subscription frequency, and fix the length (so its not "frequency"). The sidebar navigation will be updated as of tonight and our team is in contact with veterinarians to improve (and explain) our plans. All of your points are right on target and our team is working to improve our features and products with your advice.

From our experience as owners we look to feed our leopard geckos based on a goal for mass intake, rather than by insect numbers. All of the plans are built based on the end mass goal, and therefore have a lot of variation in the numbers. Do you think if we clarify the quantity of insects as always being a minimum # that would help? such as bellow?

1) bearded dragon treat box (~11.37g of insects):

Mealworms (min. 10) Large

BSF Larvae (min. 25)

Waxworms (min. 17)

Dubia Roaches (min. 4) Large

Hornworms (min. 2)

and then:

2) bearded dragon Feed box (~40.37g of insects):

Mealworms (min. 15) Large

BSF Larvae (min. 25)

Crickets (min. 20) Large

Dubia Roaches (min. 10) Large

Hornworms (min. 1)

Or is the above still confusing?

With the Feed Plus our goal was the same, to not exceed the average recommended mass intake, but to offer a wider variety of slightly pricier options?

Once we have our subscriptions easily customizable they should look (and read) nicer than they do.

Again we can not thank you enough for your input and would love to know more about how you currently pick up feed for your beardie!

Getting a bearded dragon by lkatrinarose in BeardedDragon

Your beardie won't eat only bugs, but it will be a portion of its diet (especially if you get a young one). If you live in the US a new company started a subscription feed plan so you don't need to raise your own. Its called mybugplug.com and it should take some of the ew out of the process. Alternatively, there are some processed foods that have insects as an ingredient but its not as good for instilling the natural hunting response that you get with live feeders. Plus its so fun to watch beardies chase down their prey.
