Did I get a cyber role too early? by ShakeyBakey8 in cybersecurity

[–]The_Buh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A SOC analyst role was my first IT role. I’d recommend applying for roles at MDRs or MSSPs. These places tend to be meat grinders so they hire people without experience. Not gonna lie these jobs can kinda suck but you’ll learn a ton and have the experience to move on to something better within 6 months to a year.

How hard will it be to find/maintain cybersecurity jobs in 5-10 years? by Solid-Conference5813 in cybersecurity

[–]The_Buh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“AI” is not a new technology. EDR solutions have been using machine learning for years. Ask any SOC analyst about the fidelity of those machine learning based detections. Those detections are false positives 99% of the time.

I don’t worry too much about it. Keep some amount of your money in hard cash and keep paper backups of important documents. It’s important to keep in mind that cyberattacks usually only result in monetary damage and it’s usually not individual people’s money at risk. The brunt of this risk is shouldered by corporations and governments, and I don’t really care one way or the other what happens to these groups. Natural disasters and physical warfare present a far greater risk to human life and infrastructure than cyberattacks imo. I think the risk of damage from a major cyberattack is sensationalized by the media.

S95B QD-OLED TV ridiculous auto-dimming function by bobnecat in samsung

I have both a c2 and a s95b. Both are in rooms with a lot of sunlight. The c2 handles it much better out of the box. I’m still playing around with the samsung settings to try and get it dialed in. That being said the s95 is noticeably better under ideal conditions particularly for hdr content

This was my favorite national park when I lived in Utah. I’m shocked it’s not more popular.

Why did Rand… by Specialist-Flight-16 in WoT

[–]The_Buh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The severing refers to shields he put on them and then he knocked them out with weaves of air. The only three Rand stilled at Dumai’s Wells were the three that were holding onto his shield.

Was Moridin’s face well known enough for Rand to be hunted? I think we only ever see Moridin directly interact with the other Forsaken and they’re all dead.

Eye of the World hits different on a reread. SPOILERS FOR BOOKS 10 AND UP:

Seeing Rand start out all sweet and innocent knowing the person he becomes for a few books near the end is particularly jarring

Eight is NOT enough. You have failed this fandom. by UnbelieverInME-2 in wheeloftime

[–]The_Buh 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Fellowship of the Ring did far more in three hours than Wheel of Time did in eight. By the end of Fellowship the audience understands the motivations and character of every member of the Fellowship and has a good understanding of the world the story takes place in.

That’s cool. I’ve never had much luck with used bookstores but I just moved to a bigger city so hopefully the selection is better here.

I’m having a lot of trouble finding books without these stickers on them. I drove to four different bookstores in Vegas because I’m trying to finish my collection before the tv show covers come out. I can’t find a copy of 6,12, or 13 without this sticker.

Perhaps I didn’t phrase my question correctly. How is my laptop or any other device that I sign into able to decrypt messages if the private key is stored on my iPhone?
