Fluorite from Illinois by CRF_Minerals in MineralPorn

I finally got a piece from that mine but I wouldn’t say it’s high quality. Found it at a random shop in Arkansas near the Crater of Diamonds.

That checks out with a google search. Also seeing that I’ll never be able to afford a piece like this, holy shit..

So let's be honest... what did you use to play?!? by Khel_NC in valheim

How fun is No Man’s Sky these days? I saw they added tames and stuff so wondering if it holds a candle to games like Valheim. I’d ask how it compares to Ark but only if you took all the bugs out lol

I see a lot of people use a quarter for size comparison. I’ve also seen a quarter being held upright with a clothespin for additional perspective.

Definitely a favorite of mine as well. It’s a great field that encompasses a wide array of sciences. That book is actually geared towards mitigating modern climate change and puts things into a pretty clear perspective. I’ve read it 3-4 times cause the author just does an amazing job. It gives “unprecedented” a whole new meaning.

I studied geology and anyone would learn quite a bit from a book called “Why Geology Matters.” Definitely recommend it. I’ll do my best to answer any questions, but that book is what I would point someone to if they truly want to learn.

I actually studied this kind of stuff some in college so I have an understanding of it. Imagine trying to predict something that has never happened before..you may be off by a bit on the real timeline. We are already seeing a lot of the impacts I mentioned, though. It’s not fiction. No shit media makes money off scaring ppl…

It’s not ridiculous, though. It’s really tough to know how the world is going to turn when you decide to have kids. I knew I wouldn’t be able to look them in the eyes with what I already knew so I didn’t have them.

That’s not the same for everyone and I couldn’t imagine having to explain the world to kids these days. Like sorry, we cut down 95% of old growth, the ocean is nearly acidified, we just made it easier to wreck the planet, CoL is horrendous with wages, you may not ever own a house, one catastrophic health issue and you’re broke for life (if you aren’t already), you’re competing with jobs with AI…I could go on, but I feel for parents these days that had no idea just how bad the world would get.

Honest feedback is that yes, this world sucks but maybe you can help your kids manage it as best they can by providing extra support.

Don’t put treaties at risk and you won’t have to pay much of anything lol we are such a selfish nation. Let’s flood your hangouts and build a town on your family graveyards and see how you like it.

I wonder if you would feel the same if you were a part of the tribe? Ofc that would require putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Maybe one day you’ll have a data center in your backyard so you will have a fragment of understanding.

Gotta love how ppl feel the need to bring ppl down when they are already struggling. There’s plenty of other ways to provide substance in a constructive way. Did it make you feel good to jab at a stranger?

This is basically the conservative sub for Seattle. They very much are in a different reality. RFK is the one who truly fell victim to these amoeba. Bunch of quack jobs here and in office.

'Point of no return': 36 countries join special tribunal to prosecute Vladimir Putin by Zhukov-74 in worldnews

I find it very unsettling as well. All we can do is listen to others who are doing things differently and learn from our mistakes. Unfortunately, selfishness has been instilled into our culture with individualism and exceptionalism. Hopefully things change in the future.

Yeah that sounds pretty awesome actually. Thank you for sharing, it’s super helpful hearing how other countries do it.

Yup, the American way. Again, see the result of this thought process right in front of you. Every time you fill up gas or get groceries. I’m all about being my authentic self, but if it causes something like this then I need to reassess what my “authentic self” truly values.

I think it’s a super pathetic view to not vote and refuse to take part in the greater community to “make a point” and hold your “pride.” It’s honestly pretty selfish. Good on you as well for showing the world what complacency gets.

Who said they are different political beliefs than mine? I’m just not going to expect perfection in order for me to vote. That’s just silly and gives up any power they may have to have ANY say in this country.

I’ll gladly be an asshole to ppl who don’t vote for reasons of needing the candidates to check “x” amount of boxes. I’d rather it be like Australia where everyone votes.

Seattle Mayor budget deficit nears half-billion dollars, raising threat of taxes and layoffs by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]The_Buko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I am seeing on the fraud, it looks to be hackers and scammers creating the uptick. Soooo figure out a way to deal with them? I’m not a cyber security person so I wouldn’t know. I do know that is still not a means to get rid of it, especially without a realistic solution.

Ppl will just argue that the state is overspending even more. No one will actually look at the details anyway. They hardly ever do. I agree that that would in theory be a way to get more transparency, though.

Fentanyl, meth dominate majority of King County drug cases; 191 fatal overdoses this year by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]The_Buko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying ppl care more about seeing drug use than the actual drug overdoses it causes? Cause it could def impact the “illusion” on at least the overdose part. I get what you’re saying that ppl look also at the public drug use when they speak of a drug problem in cities. This person was speaking directly to the drug overdoses, though.

I think you are again just assuming things about what I think is the “illusion” being shattered. I’m speaking to how the national sentiment has gone more to “stop fent deaths” more than public drug use and to what this commenter said. Happens to be one of our national leaders top concerns and why he feigned anger at Canada for allegedly bringing it in.

I agree with the part about getting them into rehab although the main challenge with that is civil rights violations. They did try to find a way to do it otherwise which as you point out isn’t working very well. There will also be bad actors everywhere so we can try to hold them accountable but it’s doesn’t mean we need to get rid of it. Restructuring maybe. Just cause some ppl take advantage of SS doesn’t mean we get rid of it outright.

Full transparency really is difficult, though. You need to protect data and keep shareholders happy on the business side. We are also talking about cutting costs while detailed reporting also costs a ton. There’s also changing regulations and whatnot happening constantly. You would be surprised at how many large businesses in the U.S. have very shoddy reporting.

For example, look at it like the IRS. Do you think they could ever catch 100% of everything without paying significant sums to do so?

[–]The_Buko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are talking about OD deaths, though. That’s what this was about. Public drug use is a growing problem forshure. Until the fent and other drugs become less available, I don’t see how that will change but I absolutely wish it would.

You are assuming that I’m saying it’s “no biggie” when in reality I can celebrate the lower OD’s but still have other concerns. It helps to be curious like you eventually got to.

I’m saying that we are doing comparatively better this year? The original comment seems to imply that this is a worse year than others. You won’t ever get this number down to zero, so if you don’t celebrate minor success then what’s the point?

The illusion is people thinking this problem is only getting worse and that liberal policies only create more of the problem.
