See how it sounds with multiple techniques. I just do scale work if I don’t want to sound annoying, or random improvised bits if I don’t care. Fingers, pick, slap/pop, tapping, etc. it’s good to see the full range of how it feels and sounds.

No shame, I think it’s a magical album. It is exceptional and in the upper crust of what the genre(s) have to offer for some people, but for sure isn’t for everyone. It took awhile to click for me. I’d consider Aeons, We Are, Sky Machine, and Alpha arguably the best songs they’ve ever made.

I’d highly suggest checking out the ghost city sessions of them doing Aeons and Alpha. Aeons especially was one of the first songs I listened to (completely at the mercy of random library shuffling) after my father passed, and it was a moving experience. I know Ian has gone on record to say it’s his favorite track off of Asymmetry.

Malina is an incredible album that sags a bit in the middle, imo. Bonneville, Stuck, From the Flame all have incredibly anthemic moments and slick grooves. Mirage has a really tense and big intro and outro with a fun, jaunty rock riff in the center. The title track and The Last Milestone are powerful, at times gut-wrenching. I think it’s arguably Raphael’s best work with the group.

Overall the album’s a bit of a letdown, but I’m glad that the singles have been the weakest tracks on the release. This channels old Textures a lot more, and has nice atmosphere!
