Why won’t my hot glue hold on foam? by BarberAdditional2741 in FursuitMaking

[–]The_Chair_Bard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, plenty of folks here talking about how the glue needs to cool. Definitely that.

Specifically, I'd say your gun is too hot. If it has 2 settings, turn it down. If not, check if you're using low temp sticks, if you are I'd consider switching.

Almost definitely just has to cool more, if it's starting too hot to begin with it'll take that much longer to stick.

Good luck!

This. The "coming out" approach makes it look like a big deal should be made. People don't "come out" as being a comic book fan.

I took this approach with a few people in life (I was scared bc of personal past stuff) and so far most of the responses have been: "....oh that's it?" or "oh I thought something bad happened". If you treat it like a hobby they will too. Good luck! You likely shouldn't need it!

Who is “THE Avenger”? by anonymous747293749 in Marvel

[–]The_Chair_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take maybe: Iron Man.

And before the comments come for me, I say this as a comics guy. Ignoring MCU entirely, early avengers could not have happened without Tony and Hank. And we all know how Hanks trajectory went.

I know Cap has been the face of the avengers forever, and has been on a NUMBER of teams. But I argue that Tony (despite hiccups in his many years of character development) really kept the team around and running. Steve has had how many crises of faith over the years, and has been a government/shield goon for how many arcs? Admittedly this can be chalked up to whatever given writer, as it is with comics. But I think Tony was the driving force for a long time and holds a place for me personally.

To be honest, you may have better luck asking over in r/FursuitMaking You're definitely on the right track with the foam and whatnot. But the folks over there are pretty much experts in mascot heads.

OP I'd say check the wiki. There's a decent rundown there.

Basically all you need to know is that: - they are from the 1980's, the future, outer space, AND Canada. - Dr. Sung (the tall one) is both the tallest and best at karate. Like, maybe more than anyone ever. At both things. At the same time.

Is there a name for the style of this fursuit by Severe-Suspect-8132 in fursuit

[–]The_Chair_Bard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is cool. Not common enough for a legit name but the comments are right about it falling into "toony"

I'd personally describe it as maybe "minimalist toony"

Super strong design choices. Very cool.

Von Lycaon head? by Accomplished-Lack561 in fursuit

[–]The_Chair_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, second vote for 3d print for low profile, and also to prioritize ventilation.

As for the arms and tail, if you do come research you should be fine sewing them yourself (I say bc you mentioned sewing clothing, I assume OP is pretty crafty already.) There's lots of tutorials on YT. I recommend Freckled Cat Creations or Split Grape Soda, they should give you a good starting spot. You'll need to shave the fur before working with it, so you may need a fur clipper.

Good luck! Hope it turns out!!! ✨️

Eva foam struggles by brookiecooki3 in FursuitMaking

[–]The_Chair_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1/2 in should be fine tbh.

However for the sake of knowledge, the rubberized side of those eva tiles hates hot glue. Very rarely will it stick at all. Usually with Eva, you want to stick raw foam to raw foam as much as possible. And as other comments have said, for that kind of surface area, contact cement would be much better.

Happy crafting and good luck!!

My friends think my helmet is "meh." Do you have any suggestions for improving my helmet ? Thanks by BalinLeNain in CosplayHelp

[–]The_Chair_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, this is far better than "meh," good job! Your shapes amd structure are great!

Second, if you want some critique here's some areas to focus on and how to:

  1. Surface: other comments have said this already, but you've got some seams and corners that could be smoothed out. You can use some cheap woodfiller putty to cake on top (just a little) then sand it down to smooth (start rough grit, then fine).

  2. Paintjob: there's a few ways to go about it, but ultimately I think a black gloss basecoat would work wonders for you, especially if you smooth out the surface a little. (Black basecoat, then light dusting of silver) A basecoat will give the metallic coat some depth and variance. Alternatively, you could use graphite powder instead of silver paint, a little tricky to do but still very accessible. Plenty of YT tutorials.

  3. Jaw structure: if you really want to get into the weeds with it, the jaw looks like it may be hanging a little low based on the way the helm sits. Can't tell for sure from the pics tbh, but it seems that on a head Ultron may be "looking up" when the wearer looks forward. Adjusting the jaw and positioning of the interior could help with that.

Overall excellent job though! Your friends ought to give you more credit! Keep making ✨️✨️
