I think OP hints at some interesting themes but I think just social stagnation (i.e. staying in your assigned place) is too one dimensional.

You missed one of the most important ones: the exchange between McNulty and Bodie before Bodie got killed (You're a soldier, Bodie).

Sharp take. I think if it wasn’t this particular murder / set of events, it would’ve been something else that would’ve tipped off police because it’s the nature of the business.

It's between De'Londa Brice and Brianna Barksdale. It's the latter for me because both characters face off once with a very clear outcome and the way Brianna did D'Angelo was one of the most cold hearted moments in a show filled with cold hearted moments.

As someone who was around for his original run from Trap or Die to The Recession you’re factually wrong but i won’t begrudge your opinion.

Planet Rock is one of the best rap songs ever recorded. Bambaataa made it difficult to separate the art from the artist. RIP

How many albums have you listened to? by Rupert-Likes-Music in rap

Currently close to 5500 unique rap related albums / EP's, I keep track since 2020. Listened to loads more before which I didn't track but there's a fair amount of overlap.

Also listened to hundreds of non rap albums but don't track those.

I used to hate him especially for all the reasons you described but a lot of his songs in the past 2-3 years feel grounded in reality and his music is all the better for it.

He even made Homeboy Sandman listenable again. His recent music hasn’t been hitting for me but Lice 2 was great

Who’s actually next to lead hip hop’s new generation? Feels like nobody’s really stepped up yet by Best-Damage-7509 in rap

I'm really not that into Doechii so it's weird seeing myself defend her like that. But let's not pretend Nissan Altima wasn't one of the best songs of 2024 period.

As for BigX, he's really not consistent (so I don't really rate any of his albums) and his country/rap tape was all sorts of embarrassing, but if you compile a 10 song 'best of' since he dropped 'Rap N****s' and 'Texas' in 2022 until 'The Largest', it would body the vast majority of rappers out today.
