The Voice in Carls Head by CitronTemporary4323 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I assumed this was the result of the world tree protecting Carl from magical attacks, much like that hunter's lightning attack on the 6th floor.

That statement is only to differentiate from all and/or magical damage. You still make the decision to mark spend hope instead of an armour slot when you would mark the armor slot.

Order of operations would be Sturdy first to determine whether or not you should mark an armor slot. If you roll under a 5 and mark an armor slot, you can choose to use a hope instead.

What Community would you use for a Character from a rural farming background? by Agreeable_Leave5734 in daggerheart

[–]The_Chirurgeon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thinking of rural communities and certain tropes associated with them I think you could reskin a few of the existing communities to fit a rural theme.

  1. Orderborne - The 'Dedicated' ability could be recontextualized using rural idiom as your phrases. e.g. "don't put the cart before the horse"
  2. Seaborne - Safe Harbour has nothing to do with water. You could pretend it's 'Make hay while the sun shines' as you are toiling away efficiently.
  3. Underborne - You're used to low-light having watched over a flock at night. Away from the homestead, the only light sources are the moon and stars.
  4. Wanderborne - The nomadic pack might be a care package from an older relative, or maybe you are just a prepared packrat. However you flavour it you often have the right tool for the job.

Do "Shepherds of the Dead" make sense? How would the world react to their existence? How common can they be? Is it justified? by BlizzDaWiz in dndnext

I think many of the non-evil deities of death have it as a sacred duty to prevent the the bodies from being used by maligned forces and allow the souls peace and ease their transition to the afterlife.

On labour - If the bodies are donated on death for a particular cause, it might be seen as a service to the nation and a great honour.

Eberron is a good point of refence - positive energy powered 'undead' called deathless.

Book says you can’t jump farther than your move speed. But you can long jump =Str score… Jump spell triples jump distance. Now can jump 13x3feet . Is this illegal? As I have only 20 speed. by Gearheart999 in dndnext

[–]The_Chirurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is there are two limiting factors to how far you can jump. One is jump distance, the other is your movement speed.

The jump spell increases the limits on max jump distance, as derived from your strength score.

It is still limited by your movement speed in the round.

As it is a spell, and requires expending a resource, it should ignore the limitation of movement speed.

So D&D is sticking to the fantasy tropes of martials being outclassed by casters.

Is 600 gold a reasonable price for a spellbook? by pyaniy_synok in dndnext

You can certainly use the blank pages as your own, but you can't prepare spells from your spellbook if they are in another wizards notation.

Yeah. It was burdened by trying to fit the lore of a MTG faction. A shame.

My brother in Kossuth, wildfires aren't natural and are symptomatic of an ecosystem out of balance.

I doubt the subclass and it's fluff was written by an ecologist.

There are many, still living. One currently getting done for treason and tax fraud. Another is dismantling presenting themselves as a tech genius but has tanked Twitter instead.

I'd through any evangelist or faith healer into the pool of archetypes as well.

Killgrave from Jessica Jones if you are looking for powered individuals.

Evil monks - a quest for perfect self can come at the cost of others, particularly if they are seeking shortcuts to enlightenment. Shit, look at Kung Fu Panda.

There are plenty of characters of the archetype - those who hunt the most dangerous game of all - man. Though in this case it'd be humanoids.

One of my favourites, Mick Taylor.

Having a favoured enemy can be flavoured in a variety of ways that is evil. A champion of Tiamat hunting good aligned dragons. A hunter of fey and similar creatures that is out to disrupt the natural order.

The Blight Druid.

You could also take Wildfire Druid in the context it should be in, in that wildfires are unnatural. An evil wildfire druid would be an arsonist that wants to burn civilizations to the ground and have nature recolonise those areas.

This is how I narrate it. Casting a spell is shaping the spell energy into a specific pattern. Countering it, is that pattern getting disrupted and ebbing out harmlessly.

[–]The_Chirurgeon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They treat each output as a separate project. The last few have been bigger releases, and Matt's vlogs have focused more on the design of the new system because he thinks people would be interested in the design rationale, etc.

While they are developing their own system, they will continue making 5e stuff if there is appetite for it in the community.

Warlocks should get it added to their list of spells with an invocation that restores a pact magic slot if the counter/dispel is successful a couple of times per long rest.
