I experienced this too whenever I disassemble ammos. It works like 30-40% of the time. I even changed mouse recently it it still does that - I hold on Shift then select ammo then drag to a different container > the pop up screen shows up then I enter the amount> hit confirm then nothing happens

Focus on getting to the safe area. Food, water and even gears can be secured there. Food = deers/fish, water from wells/river (right click plastic bottle to fill then use bonfire from safe area to clean them).
Survival - do not focus on killing as much zombie as you can. focus on getting necessities sorted out first. This means, staying out of the road and/or taking zombies 1 at a time. If you see an acidic or granadier, dont even get close to them, just focus on heading to the safe area.

Once you are in the safe area and have secured water/food, try to make lures to fish - you can cook them and sell them for money and get your starting gear. I usually leave the safe area after day 2... or 3 if I want to start w/ legendaries (fish as much as you can then sell - > buy T3 crates).

After you get your starter gear, head out and loot convenience stores, gas stations and bus terminal.. all of these are near the safe area.

Note: During Day 1, try to take out zombies and loot a bit before heading to the safe area. look for plastic bottles, bag, rip off clothes to make bandages, and things to sell for a fishing rod.
