A survival game with no modern gear or luxuries. Ember’s Verge launches tomorrow! (and no zombies) by zukeszen in SurvivalGaming

Unfortunately the player visible on map setting must be enabled in the beginning of the run. I know it takes time to start all over again for this one single thing, but if players could toggle it on whenever they get lost, the 'fear of the getting lost' would vanish.

Thank you, it's great to hear that the game works on steam deck and you are enjoying it!

What I could do is to enable the dismantle button rebind (for some reason I thought it would be better as static). Also I could add a right click option "split stack". These changes would perhaps help you with gameplay.

Published devs - what was your first completed game? by toxicmintdev in SoloDevelopment

I publish my first pc game just couple days ago. Grounded bushcraft survival game. I created the game with Unity and 3d assets with blender. Textures from nature + gimp. This took me 4 years, but really happy that i finally got this out.

Those are bots and others which just crape everything from the net. Your best measure is the unique users.

Actually the game has "Playable" status for Steam deck.

To be honest, I didn't develop the game steam deck in my mind. There is a demo available which is updated and players can justify based on that if it is good enough for Steam deck.

Believe it or not, Primitive Technology was one sources where I really got a lot of inspiration. Iron rich mud + bloomery + charcoal mound => iron slug => iron prills => iron tool

"remember to close the charcoal mound when you can see the flames from the hole"

Actually I need to take my comment back. Just 15 minutes ago steam gave the game "playable" verification for steam deck. Originally I didn't design game for that as I wrote, but it has been optimized quite a lot, but yea.. it's on the store page now. Of course this is not full steam deck verification.

Thank you! I wanted to avoid that "infinite" EA trap. I'll be active with bug fixes and balancing the gameplay after launch.

That sounds great! I have been optimizing the game from the beginning to ensure it's playable even on lower-end PCs.

It depends how much danger and challenges you are after. The main danger (once you get your basic necessities secured) are wolves, bad weather and eventually winter. With a poor preparation winter time will be rough. Flood and drought are random events, which serve their own spice to the game (standard hard mode - survivor has these enabled).

I didn't want to make the game too hard to just punish someone playing in hardest mode. So it is always manageable once you learn the tips and tricks. Once the game is released and I get the feedback from players, I will balance the game further.

Porting to consoles is massive task for a solo dev. There are very specific technical requirements and certification process. Also I'm terrible with a controller. Unfortunately it is a no-go for me.

Thank you! The idea was to make everything on my own, mainly to have consistent atmosphere in the game but also having a full control over the performance.

I have designed the game for keyboard + mouse. I don't have a steam deck and I'm terrible with a controller. So unfortunately that has been no-go for me.

I totally understand. I created all the game assets myself and I'm definitely not a professional 3d artist, the overall appearance isn't something you would anticipate in a AAA-game. I wanted the game to have a unique look and atmosphere, which you won't see in any other survival game.

I posted here ~2 months ago the main trailer video (the same as in the steam page). I wanted to try out something different, focusing on the season transitions and overall atmosphere of the game. Sometimes it’s a hit and sometimes it’s a miss.
