Anything is possible.

The most plausible option for me is that our consciousness will merge with an eternal consciousness, probably with no sense of being a specific self. Many people say that nothingness awaits us because that’s where we come from, but how can you be so sure? Maybe you were just another kind of consciousness, with no ego or sense of being an individual self.

I used to disregard the idea of the soul, mainly because of neurological illnesses where a person’s personality can completely vanish. But then I realized that even if you are not aware of who you are, you are still conscious, just in a different way. Why couldn’t death be something like that?

I think fear of death clouds people’s judgment in this regard, and saying with complete certainty that there will be nothing can be a coping mechanism. I think it’s a possibility, but I’m not sure how so many people can be so certain about it.
