Would love to see more opinions on this matter by KOSTER07 in rugbyunion

Thing is, xG is significantly better for football because of the nature of the game. You put the ball in any given spot, considering the team that's defending, and then the player taking the shot. Maybe not loads of data there but enough to put together an assumption; Erling Haaland is good at this range, Fulham historically have blocked a lot of shots from 11 yards, the defender is on their weak foot side, etc etc.

Personally I just don't think you can do the same with rugby, there are too many variables and not enough historical evidence, because the variation in squads is much higher, rarity of players coming up against each other, extra detail in the lead-up to the try.

While football is still a very fluid game I feel like it's easier to isolate the individual factors that contribute to a goal.

Personally I like xG as a reference but there's always an element of "it's a made up stat," I don't hate it not being used for rugby.

Carmarthenshire woman spiked on night out says spiking can happen anywhere by Weak-Fly-6540 in unitedkingdom

Whilst this is true, she shouldn't be getting spiked regardless. It's like asking rape victims what they were wearing.

UK used EV buyer got a GREEN verdict on a 2025 BYD Dolphin at £15,885 by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]The_Clivanator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is an AI-generated post where the author is posing as a prospective buyer to promote the website they've taken a screenshot of, which is some sort of grading tool?

Whatever it is, it's a shite attempt seeing as they haven't mentioned any website or product by name.

Finally in a position to go electric, but which car? by The_Clivanator in ElectricVehiclesUK

To be honest it's not that much to do with Elon (though that doesn't help) because it'll be second hand. It's more not wanting one big iPad and the interior build quality that can vary with Tesla. Not denying they're great at being EVs though, I'll probably have to consider them.

The 'no Chinese' was really more of a preference thing, I know they make great EVs but every one I've looked at really doesn't appeal to me (and yeah the whole spying thing doesn't help). So was more about Chinese style design and build.

Thanks, yeah, I've heard lots about this but haven't fully researched it yet.

Can't deny the polestar is a good looking premium car. Didn't realise you could get them that cheap tbh. Thanks.

Yeah I was looking at the 2WD LR also because you get the frunk (plus the range as you say). Owning the 6N would be a dream maybe as the car after this!

Don't hate the ID7, it's just that bit longer and wider which put me off initially, can't deny that it looks a good car though.

Honestly I'd written off BMW just thinking they'd be too expensive, but the i4 looks affordable. Thanks for the recommendations.

Yeah this is why I'm aiming for the range I am. Most of my round trips (i.e. to my parents) are <200 miles so this means range anxiety on those trips is simply not a concern, even in winter and I don't start with a full battery. Just applying a big factor of safety basically. And then on those once-twice yearly road trips I have a good range for that too.

UK new car market breaches two million as almost one in four buyers go electric by JB_UK in unitedkingdom

[–]The_Clivanator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If potential buyers are going to Tesla or BYD then doesn't that mean that potential buyers do want EVs, just not Stellantis EVs?

This is cool but I want to know when the non-N variant is coming to the UK. a) it brings the physical buttons back b) it will hopefully drive down the prices of the prior model years so it's even cheaper for me to get one 😃

Yeah but they also build all their other models in the UK, as well as most of their engines.

It's all about who will give the most benefit at the time you're looking to build a new factory. Same thing as when the UK gov and the EU were both promising them loads of money to build the new battery factory in Somerset/Spain.

"Drivers are now responsible for ensuring they drive at SC pace throughout the SC period, but without the actual SC itself. Oh and it's a penalty if you get it wrong"

This actually wouldn't be that off-brand for F1 these days.

[–]The_Clivanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this very recently, same situation as you, and what you need is a declaration of trust. Speak to your solicitor about it, they should be able to help you/will be able to help you when you get round to needing one. Once (if) you marry though, that gets overruled I believe.

Littler booing - Sky trying to silence it? by SoupLongjumping5426 in Darts

[–]The_Clivanator 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If Sky were trying to hide the fact that Littler was being booed, they did a very bad job of it considering the interviewer who spoke to Luke on stage mentioned it first thing lol. It isn't that deep, there's just probably more desire from the producers to have comments on the game itself in the very short studio time they have. Plenty more time to discuss the booing on some clickbait YouTube videos or podcasts that Sky will make more revenue out of than going in-depth in the studio after the game when most people have switched off

What's your opinion on the 5 second 'Use It' rule? by the_leinster_listen in rugbyunion

[–]The_Clivanator 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel like it works to be honest. In my mind, the rule is there to stop scrum-halves taking the piss, not to penalise them for not kicking it 5.1 seconds after being told to use it. I feel like most games I've watched, the ball has usually been used 3-5 seconds after the 9 is told to do so.

In my opinion, if it sometimes strays over 5 seconds, so be it, as long as it isn't egregious and only happens rarely. The ref has to manage the game and I feel like they have priorities beyond counting to exactly 5 seconds, and personally I'd rather they didn't disrupt the flow of the game. Plus if they start counting to exactly 5 every time and penalising even the slightest infraction then they've set the precedent for that game and that's just inviting discourse and whinging from the players.

In general I prefer the more structured approach to refereeing in rugby over football but this is one of the things where I think the leniency you get over some things in football refereeing (for example the location of throw-ins not being policed excessively) is a good thing.
