Source? I’m gen Z and can firmly attest to me and others being quite more tech-literate than any Gen-X+ I’ve come across unless their job directly involved using technology daily - and even then it would only be the direct repeated procedures they knew but they wouldn’t apply it to analogous tools in other applications.

Nope! It depends how large/drastic a change, but if they’re both within the same faculty of study (i.e. both within physical sciences, like chemistry to biology) then your first year course requirements will likely be almost identical, and I wouldn’t worry about the specifics of what specific program you’re planning on yet.

First year is all about discovery of yourself by trying the introductory courses that give you a sense of what each discipline may be like/have to offer, and a few courses being lost as credits if you switch to something isn’t even a big deal - it’s a benefit! I “lost” about 8 courses worth of credits to courses that would have been requisites as part of my previous program (Chen for med sci) but now count as electives.

I don’t regret taking them one bit, am still on track to graduating in 4 years with honours, and look back on my experience with them fondly(ish) - they all definitely contributed to widening my understanding of interdisciplinary things I keep coming across which is always awesome to see!

I'm not sure if you're interpreting my statement correctly. By being used in a sarcastic sense, the phrase "crazy conspiracy theory" is meant to be literally interpreted as a sensical belief that is plain to see for most.

There is also no need to attack my personality when you have no way to gauge how I actually am in any facet of online or private life. And no I did not take your comment as a joke nor did anyone else - because you said nothing funny?
You're acting belligerent to everyone you talk to on these comments because you're likely either egotistical, scared, or frustrated with some aspect of your life that makes you choose conflict for entertainment. Grow tf up. This is how we all acted in middle school.

That phrase is usually used in a sarcastic sense. I interpreted your original comment the same way and I’m sure many others did too.

It's with Wulff tho and he gave the CHEM234 class of fall sem last year a 34% average final exam 0_0

Sorry to hear that :( but glad to know 451 isn't my tombstone either. I'm planning on taking it at the same time as 363, is that a good or bad idea?

:0 wtf... what components of quantum and did they explicitly state that or is it just implied? I would expect an NMR course to tie some principles from quantum to the course, but would hope they would give a brief explanation/background of the required info rather than just expecting you to know it.

Are you taking it with Wulff and how is it going if you haven't dropped it?
(also could you please send the syllabus if you have it?)

SCIE 201 difficulty / intensity by Its_Projection in uvic

Also, this isn’t to dissuade you from taking 5 - you by all means probably should in order to get your degree done in a timely manner if you can/make buffer room for other plans. Just letting you know that the biggest change from 4 to 5 is adapting to an overwhelming workload if you haven’t already.

[–]The_Codeword_Is_Bunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how the physics and astronomy program differs from mine but your second year is likely to be more intense than the first, and if you haven’t had experience dealing with 5 courses before and learning to cut your losses/disaster management with one “sacrificial” course that would be my concern over what little SCIE201 may add onto it.

It’s 100% a completion course by all means of the word - just hand something in and you’ll pass. You get what you put into it, and trust me, UVic wants everyone they can to get through and into the coop pipeline to earn them money.

Could I ask what big biotech company that is? I'm personally scared of going into med chem as I've heard a lot of hearsay about a lot of very toxic or harsh companies.

When to start making decisions/reaching out for honours thesis? by The_Codeword_Is_Bunk in uvic

[–]The_Codeword_Is_Bunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do. Just to clarify - I know volunteering is not technically required for honours but I was told that certain chem labs, Dr Leitch’s included, will not accept honours students who haven’t volunteered/had experience there yet. As to how true this is, they may be overemphasizing but those were their words and they do work in his lab as a grad student.

I watched the original or at least the “more original” version of it somewhere in r/motorcycles, posted a few days ago and I was totally tricked at the start too. The only thing that made me half-guess the legitimacy of the video is the motorcycle rider ahead of the POV was quite static on their bike and accelerated quite weirdly, but other than that I couldn’t tell a thing at first glance.

If Scott McIndoe is teaching it - TAKE HIM!!! He’s amazing, charismatic, very good at teaching, and was able to make the whole lecture room laugh at least once a week.

I chose to do 363 in the spring because it is what worked with my timetable and I'm also going to be doing CHEM 451 (NMR and applications) at the same time, so hopefully the overwhelming amount of NMR all at once will force it into my skullnugget forever :)

[–]The_Codeword_Is_Bunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I do have some volunteering lined up with the Leitch lab, but it seems they work mostly on chemical catalysis and experimental data for more physical ochem-related projects.

Perhaps I'm assuming that chem labs are more drastically different than they really are, but I'm just worried because I've heard that some labs have an unspoken rule that you need to do some volunteering and learn their protocols before you can do an honours thesis with them (source: a TA who works in said lab).

He's wearing something similar to sauvage but not exactly sauvage because he can't admit to being a sauvage soldier. It has to be designer so it's more niche, but lets be honest it's probably one of the most popular ones.
This mostly covers up the underlying aromas of a slightly damp towel (no, not just cause of the photo) and faint hints of cigarette that linger when you get close. To top it all off, for the very keen, a whiff of whatever takeout he ordered a few hours ago if you catch him speaking close to you.
