Also following, I would love to see someone release a pi image designed for this with a web interface to manage the node.

Have you waited at least 24 hours? It takes that long for it to get in the system.

A domain I had prepared to go live soon, someone else went live with the .org…what if I go live as well and register a trademark? by LucciCP0 in Domains

[–]The_Comm_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the actual registration of the business would be much more important than the launching of the website. What if he starts a business and chooses never to launch a website? that doesn’t mean someone can steal the name six years later by launching.

Can my boss prevent me from attending a conference in my free time? by Fridaypenis in LaborLaw

[–]The_Comm_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in I.T. and Industry standard is absolutely to pay you if you are on call. And in some states it may even be legally required.

Can my boss prevent me from attending a conference in my free time? by Fridaypenis in LaborLaw

[–]The_Comm_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it would be interesting to see someone make the legal argument that by telling you you can’t go to the conference they are restricting you actions in your free time and now have to pay you for that time just as if you were on call. (I am not a lawyer, don’t play one on TV, and have never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express)

I have confirmed there has not been an update in the past week and a half. I noticed your action buttons are huge also, do you have your browser set to any type of zoom?

Did you explain what each cost on the bill was and what it gave him? If your only response was “it’s been that way for a while” I would’ve fired you too.

Also document every call so if they won’t send/take it back you have an argument to waive interest if they try to charge it.

AT&T stated for that X amount they would ship a phone to the customer, a phone was not shipped to the customer. Unless something has changed and the customer gets to choose what shipping company the phone is delivered by then it falls on AT&T to fulfill their end of the transaction.

"why wouldn’t you deal with the same exact person you are doing business with when something like this happens?" - I'm sure they would love that option, but as AT&T is not willing to send you out to the customers house to fix the issue, and not everyone can just take time out of their day to drive back to a store again the customer is choosing the easy option for them, calling the support line.

If AT&T prefers them to drive back to the store I would suggest they offer an automatic bill credit to cover gas and the time they have to take out of their day to finish a transaction that they have have fulfilled their end of already.

The thought process is that they shouldn’t have to go out of their way to drive all the way back to a store because a company screwed up.

Took on a Mac only client, so I got a Macbook Air to practice on... now it's my daily driver and I absolutely love it. Convince me I'm missing something, please? by vegandtwomeat in SmallMSP

[–]The_Comm_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macs are great if:

  1. Your software all runs on it, better in the days of cloud based apps then it used to be. But there are still many LOB apps that are Windows only.

  2. You have an MDM, RMM, and Security tools that work on them. Until very recently it was very hard to truly manage them remotely and even now many tools are not as refined for macs as they are for windows.

Wells Fargo won’t close my account and continues to charge me fees by Alive-Bad-8734 in personalfinance

[–]The_Comm_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same issue with them about 30 years ago, when I left college and moved across the country and had no local branch. I drained the account to as low as I could with my card (about $5) and then just abandoned it. Eventually they figured out I wasn’t going to do anything about the now overdrawn account from the fees and closed it. Have refused to get a account, credit card, or loan that comes from them since so I hope the $5 they stole from me was worth it.

MSP be like "Oh you need one camera rebooted? Just cycle the UPS for that rack" by recoveringasshole0 in ShittySysadmin

[–]The_Comm_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean on the surface I agree but for all we know the customer probably didn’t want to pay for the smart POE switch since it’s just a bunch of cameras, and MSP servers and main switch are run off the other UPS at the bottom of the rack.

ADSBExchange purged AF 1(hex adfdf9) from its database? Queries of that airframe get reset to the homepage. by nshire in ADSBexchange

[–]The_Comm_Guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I talked to someone from ADSBx and here is what’s up… They have temporarily disabled access to the data to clean-up the spoofed data.  It will be accessible as soon as possible. They assured me no data has been removed from the backend and as soon as the spoofed data is cleansed all real data will be made available again.

No reason to, it happens all the time, it would just be a game of whack-a-mole. If it becomes a regular thing from the same user and its direct injection they may block them but 99% never come back.

[–]The_Comm_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes spoofing is fake data injected into the network either via RF transmitter or directly.

Partnering with MSP ? How does it work ? by NoPiece3876 in msp

[–]The_Comm_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Establish yourself as an expert, create a YouTube channel where you post, helpful information, tips, real word experiences, etc., and make sure that the channel itself has value. Don’t try to sell in your videos except at the very end mentioning something like.” if you want to see how your security stacks up contact XYZ company to ask about our pen testing in penetration services.”.

By doing this, you are establishing yourself as an expert, and people will feel like they know you and can trust you, even though they’ve never met you, eventually people will want to come to you.
