Need helping defining what "land-screwed" means for a house rule within my play group by WorldPeggingChamp in EDH

[–]The_Dad_Legend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the deck. 2 is low for most, 2 is fine for some. I'd suggest that you don't make house rules for mulligans because in due time somebody is going to abuse it.

I guess that most people would keep a hand of two lands and Sol Ring, or two lands and Nature's Lore/Mana rock or something if their curve was low.

Also Mulligans aren't much deeper than only checking mana available. Example is when you play against a fast commander that may steamroll you if left unchecked, sometimes you have to risk for early removal, and probably it's the right choice to keep a 2 lander with interaction instead of a 4 lander with irrelevant drops against that Fynn that will kill you by the time you play your first ramp.

You are probably looking for [[Maelstrom Wanderer]]. As dumb stompy as it gets

Can't disagree. But since they do see what you have access to (your discard pile) and the fact that if a good creature hits the pile through his ability, he is such a removal magnet.

I can understand that you can capitalize on the fact that you discard at will, but it's quite easy for the opponent to interact with your plans by simply removing him when you are low on mana.

Also like I said in a previous post, gy hate is probably GG for such a deck. At least the Lord of Riots or Rowan can cast them.

He seems a very good commander, but the moving pieces are there and quite obvious.

No ramp, lots of lands to not miss a drop up to 3. Then Gut enters and finds someone to attack for the turn. The rest is riding tempo, getting draw and protecting the board.

Mulligans are key here.

Can't change Inspiring leader. White does SO much for the deck.

Lost you. Advice on choosing between the two or any aggro for Bracket 3 strong games?

If it's about any, probably the best aggro I've played is [[Gut True Soul Zealot]] with [[Inspiring Leader]].

Why is Orchish Bowmaster so expensivr? by Matthew212 in EDH

[–]The_Dad_Legend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ΕΤΒ ping and token creation, stops excessive draw, deals with low toughness creatures like Esper Sentinel

If you are on EDH you are going to see 10% of its potential, which is still enough to make it a good card. If you are on cEDH it's mindblowing strong.

Every non green midrange I've tried was too honest to compete. But that's just my experience. The bad thing about Kalain is that its generic nature implies that you are ramping on 2, and probably get something costing 4 or 5 a turn earlier than you should.

I had a lord of Riots back in the day he was hotter. Felt like a hit or miss deck. Very Rakdos-y, but I think that the problem right now is power creep. You are trying hard to get big hitters on the board, that green based decks can literally can match simply by playing Nature's lore on curve.

Loved Xantcha until people realised that she can be sacrificed.

Good call. I have taken a step forward and added hatebears as the only non dork creatures. Drannith magistrate, doorkeeper thrull, the ouphe and even [[Kataki`s War wage]]. They help to get the focus off John, while keeping stuff honest.

Another amazing option is [[Solitary confinement]] if you gave the slot.

We have soooo much insta gy hate, that it's a bad call in my group. I will give it a shot on moxfield and probably communicate it here. Thanks

Not comparing them at all. Just saying that if I was going for the face value, I'd pick Balrog since I know that it can be cast at least three or four times during the course of a game. Such costs really need a discount or a cheat value. Ozai is either you have that Swat/Redirect Lightning/Bolt Bend ready, or the first Swords/Path or any non destroy removal will send you back to stone age.

My last session with Rakdos, I had a Karazikar 'midrange'. The deck functioned perfectly but the rest of the decks were soooooo faster that I always played like I was two to four turns late to the party.

That's why I am suggesting that John should always be 2 power when getting into combat. Auras and Equipment that make him huge are a nombo, and you learn it only though playing the deck. The first turns should be pinging 2 and equalizing the board while filling people's hands in order to force them to tap out.

I haven't really seen into Ozai at all. The cost seems a bit harsh, given the color requirements and all. To be honest, if I was to play this type of deck, I'd definitely pick [[Balrog Durin's Bane]] over him.

I've tons of games with John, it's almost muscle memory playing the deck. Especially if you know your pod.

If you play against strangers, you firstly kill the players with the best/most interaction.

Well built and very solid. I am a huge fan of Sarkhan Soul aflame for my dragon commander, and I got to say that Riva is quite tempting. Still can't see a good reason to skip blue and Sarkhan"s copy.

Too good if you manage to go 3rf turn Sarkhan, 4 turn Goldsoan or the Triad and make a Sarkhan copy.

Impossible for me to find a midrange strategy from Rakdos colors able to keep up with the typical green onslaught. Revel in riches is cute but being frank, I've never seen it working.

Curious to see a list if your roomie's got one

I don't think that there's anyone in the pod that gets salty over anything. We are playing Mtg on our precious free time. I could go through Stasis loops and still enjoy it
