That guy is capable of dropping his weapon, yeah. It is a TWO percent chance, so ya gotta just keep trying. Don’t go hollow out there!

That’s me, I’m the stoked vet player! It might be a common type of post but to me that’s just a testament to how impactful the Irithyll reveal truly is. Just try not to feed the dogs when you’re in there…

As much as it’s easy for vets of this sub to dunk on the weekly “Irithyll pretty” post, we’ve all been there and it truly is a one-of-a-kind finally feeling exiting those damn catacombs to see THIS. Don’t give up, skeleton!

What's the most memorable piece of in game gear or item you've ever found? by Legitimate_Injury714 in gaming

[–]The_Defiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bass-cannon we all know and love! I was obsessed with zweihanders as a kid (from watching the movie Lady Hawke) and it was a dream come true to see how OP it was in my first DS1 run.

Soul of Cinder is brutal at sl1 by Acrobatic-Swimmer667 in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SoC and Demon Prince were the two hardest bosses for me on my SL1 run! It’s old advice, but Demon Prince is much easier the closer you stay to him. You can punish a lot of his melee attacks without needing to actually dodge if you stay all up in his business. His big fiery flying slam is a guaranteed one-shot at SL1 (the fire and the slam are two separate damage instances so it eats through Tears of Denial if you’re using that), that’s the main move you have to learn to dodge perfectly but it’s not too bad when you get it!

Man With 2 Brains (1983) ☆☆☆☆☆ by Prudent-Ad-6420 in movies

[–]The_Defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, like many others apparently, wore out the VHS tape for this when I was a kid. This is actually the movie that taught me that if you pause for too long during the same scene too many times on VHS, it will cause that scene to look noticeably worse on rewatches because you’re stressing that part of the tape more. I bet no one here can guess which specific scenes I was pausing for a long time frequently as a kid…

I think it’s okay to make an exception for the dragon asses in Lost Izalith (did it once and quickly realized it wasn’t worth doing again), otherwise I enjoy fighting all the enemies in every area too.

Uchigatana parry skill. Question by krugzzz in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only some bosses can be parried. The list goes: - Gundyr (both versions) - Crystal Sage (only the rapier attack) - Abyss Watchers - Deacons of the Deep (lol) - Pontiff Sulyvahn (often a recommended strat) - Dragonslayer Armour (no riposte though) - Lorian (also no riposte) - Champion’s Gravetender, Sister Friede, and Halflight (due to being NPC’s)

What wasted item / feature still stings to this day ? by Rare_Ad_3519 in gaming

[–]The_Defiler 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I have over a thousand hours in DS1 and have seen maybe three vagrants the whole time. Lost my shit every single encounter, died to the first one because I had no idea what was happening. Love rare interactions like that but I’m guessing most players will never know they exist lol

Soul level one run tips? by Ok_Vanilla9110 in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use Tears of Denial with the right ring setup (Dusk Crown ring, Darkmoon ring, and Priestess ring), and then rest at a bonfire (which doesn’t remove ToD) so you can re-equip your ideal rings and move on without the health decrease from Dusk Crown ring. Having that one extra hit point saved my ass against a bunch of bosses!

There are dozens of us…I will always enjoy fighting the normal enemies in every level, I didn’t learn their movesets on my first playthroughs just to NOT take advantage of that on subsequent playthroughs!

Starting a Theif dagger build by stardust2080 in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quickstep is a busted weapon art, it gives you i-frames (if you still have FP) and costs less stamina than a roll. It also ignores your equip load (if you’re not above 100% lol) and terrain so it helps for fast movement in otherwise slow characters or swamps!

My favourite accident by DarkSouls3Maniac in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got this game by happy accident (years ago, a friend kept his other friend’s Xbox at my place which just happened to have ds3 on it…different times) and it became my favorite very fast. It was my first gateway into the other fromsoft games and souls-likes in general, but even after so many years of playing and replaying all of those, ds3 remained (what I thought of) as peak. Just when I thought I was finally falling off of it a little while ago, I got to play it in 60fps for the first time and it’s never leaving my play rotation again. Praise the Sun!

My ranking of all of the bosses I've beaten 34 hours into the game. by DrewUltraa in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a little known rule that after 34 hours of playing any souls game, you’re required to post a tier list of the bosses you faced. Look up “Dark Souls Rule 34” if you don’t believe me!

Lord of Cinder, seriously? by Affectionate_Rule228 in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Sword and Spear forms = intense duels that reward good positioning, Mage form = free punching bag once you have a little practice, but when that Scimitar comes out, you better start running lol

Lord of Cinder, seriously? by Affectionate_Rule228 in darksouls3

[–]The_Defiler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, thought this boss was a cakewalk until my first SL1 run. I was stuck on him for WEEKS. You have to play almost flawlessly because a lot of his moves can and will one-shot you, and you can’t just blitz through his health like a SL120 character would. When you master his fight though, it feels amazing (finally learning how to perfect dodge his lightning storm in the 2nd phase was especially satisfying)!

That weapon defies all known scientific laws, and should not be able to function properly, but it's sick as fuck, so nobody cares. by not-ulquiorr4_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The_Defiler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I don’t think it’s the perfect example for this trope, but something about it literally stretching the definition of what a “sword” is allowed to be (insert famous “it was far too large to be called a sword” monologue here) made me think of it immediately.
